Skill assignment to f buttons and resetting skills

What’s up with not being able to assign skills and reset skills? what’s up? Caan only use f1 for the most part. You sell the game but don’t support it. What’s up?

You can reassign skill hotkeys to whatever keys you want. You do not have to use the default F1-F12 keys.

(While playing the game)

Escape, Options.
Go to the “Controls” tab. You can assign keyboard keys and controller keys to any action. You can also assign two keys for each action.

I personally use QWERTYASDFGH for my skill hotkeys, because they’re right below the 1-4 belt keys.

As far as resetting stats and skills, that can be done once for free per difficulty from Akara in Act 1 after completing the Den of Evil quest. Once you’ve used all of your free respecs from Akara, the only way to respec again is with the Token of Absolution, which is created by collecting the four colored essences from the Hell bosses and cubing them together. It’s a one-time usage consumable that will respec your stats and skills just like Akara does.

I have attempted to assign the keys but only the f1 and f2 seem to work and it makes sense to offer a skill reset for same. most builds require one as you level up and the skills become available.

Something must be wrong with your keyboard, or you’re not doing something right.

generally if you have a build that needs mostly high lvl skills either you suffer for 12-24 lvls(wind druid lookin at you) by holding onto extra points till you can spend them or you do a powerful early game build, then respec in NM.

Normal is generally forgiving enough that you don’t even need much in the way of skill investment on most characters to pass it. Honestly, the only time I ever run into real issues soloing my way through Normal is on Duriel (he’s definitely the wake up call boss and I did end up giving up and respeccing my bow amazon to javs until I get to Nightmare Akara because Duriel is such a pain in the rear as bow). Baal can take an eternity on some characters (if your AR is low on physical characters or because of the mana drain on casters) but is such a wimp in terms of his damage dealing capabilities that it’s just a matter of patience there.

In fact, I actually suspect a viable challenge play is to get as far as you can without assigning a single skill point, and I’d expect any character to be able to complete Normal that way. Maybe even Nightmare? Probably wouldn’t be till Hell that you might hit a hard wall - if at all, the challenge is such an obvious one that I wouldn’t be surprised if folks have hit Guardian under such conditions …

(D2 is nice in general for challenge plays that way because of how much leeway it gives you in terms of not needing to fully min max and that is one of the things that continues to lend it so much charm as it’s very hard to find a modern RPG - especially one with online multiplayer - that has so much latitude at all stages of the game.)
