Singleplayer: Starting in Act 5 - does this still work?

In D2 it was possible to start offline chars in Act5 normal (level33 naked) as a way to mini self-rush. You could also use it to get stat points/levels on your mules so they could equip items to store on their bodies.

Anyone knows or tried if this still works? I’m kinda scared to break something  . I want to use it for the extra storage space and possibly to jump start some alts later on. I don’t feel comfortable installing any mods at this time since they’re early in development and the game is constantly getting patches.

"1.) if you have a shortcut to diabloII, right click, properties, and in the target box, add -act5 outside the qoutation marks, note it should look like this: Target: "C:\blahblahblah\diabloII\Diablo II.Exe" -act5

-alternatively-

2.) open notepad, type this in the first line:

cd C:\default directory(ies) for diabloII\Diablo II\

Type this in the second line of text:

start game.exe -act5

make sure after the second line of text you add another blank line, otherwise the program you have just written will not open the game.

Save this program as Act5.bat and you can click on it any time you want to start a new character from act5.

3) There is a 3rd way to do it, but you have to open command prompt and you basically type the EXACT same stuff as alternative 2, since a .bat file basically opens up command prompt and types the stuff you typed in as a batch."

Is this really true? (I don’t care to gts :see_no_evil:); I never knew about this. I doubt it’s the case, though, that it’s a kept feature. Just another unnamed change, likely.

I never tried it back in D2 myself since I didn’t play singleplayer much, but I read it a lot of times at different places so yes, it used to work in singleplayer offline only

And considering that it started you at level 33, I believe, implies that this was a known, intended feature by the devs. And not just a trick someone found.

I was wondering if the new game supported any command-line options, but I haven’t tried any. I mean, they kept the /players command, but that’s internal, so not exactly the same. Still… I wonder.
