In single player, there is obviously no ability to trade for runes you need. You have to just hope that somehow a rune you need drops at some point. The high rune drop rates should be increased for single player to allow for more varied builds. More builds means more customization, means more opportunity for fun for those who prefer the challenge of self-found single player. I have played D2 for 20 years and just found my first Jah rune ever on D2R after grinding for months. I wish I could make a dual dream paladin but the odds of finding another Jah are astronomical. Please increase high rune drop rates for single player as it would have zero effect on any balance or bnet economy because it’s obviously only affecting the one single player. This seems like a no brainer and would make this game so much more fun to actually be able to make endgame runewords more than once every 20 years. Please please please Blizz.
I am very much a purist in that I generally disagree with (most) anything that seeks to deviate from the original iteration of the game—with the exception of some quality of life improvements like the shared stash, etc.
However, being now bound to console play without an online account, I have to say the drop rates in single player create a lot of undue barriers. This is not to say that I think the game should be “nerfed” so that endgame gear can be found in a week or less, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for single player drop rates to be tweaked even minutely so that endgame gear CAN be found by more casual players.
It is not reassuring looking back on all the accrued playtime I had on the original Battle.Net and thinking about how MAYBE a tenth of my gear was stuff I found through grinding and the majority portion was acquired through trading I no longer have access to.
I absolutely agree with this. I only play SP on Xbox, and I have only found:
Ist x1
Mal x2
Um x1
Pul x1
Lem x8
Tal x356
Thul x378
Ort x504
Eth x656
Tir x708
Ral x834
Amn x1054
You get the picture.
Something has to change here, we can’t use Hero Editor or Plugy or the rest.
Hoping the devs hear this.
you guys dont understand anything i think , they give you receipt to turn your LOW runes into Higher runes , by exemple your x1054 AMN = 325 SOL = 100 Shael … see where i go? convert all these runes into higher level , and u will end with a zod , instead of watching the rune on the ground oh it a el rune ? i wont pick it up it too low . organise your stash and keep killing.
Lol… do you even play singleplayer?
Who doesn’t love spending hours farming chipped gems and cubing up so they can be the proud owner of 379 shael runes? You guys don’t know anything!!! Lmao
You could create an online character and only play by yourself in private games. Then you still have the option to trade if you can’t find what you’re looking for. It’s basically single player offline but with options
Not to sound wildly frugal, but I don’t really want to spend the money on an online subscription to deal with a notoriously user unfriendly Battle.Net experience that I would use at most 2 times a month.
I do cube up with runes, but honestly that’s a non-solution. It takes almost 60,000 El runes to make just an Amn. 531,000 to make that Shael rune. 14 trillion El runes to make a Zod. I have been playing Diablo 2 since it first came out and I can, with full confidence, say I’ve never passed up on a rune. Ever. I’ve come nowhere near close to picking up 14 trillion runes.
3 Dol Runes + 1 Chipped Emerald = Hel Rune
3 Hel Runes + 1 Chipped Diamond = Io Rune
3 Io Runes + 1 Flawed Topaz = Lum Rune
3 Lum Runes + 1 Flawed Amethyst = Ko Rune
3 Ko Runes + 1 Flawed Sapphire = Fal Rune
3 Fal Runes + 1 Flawed Ruby = Lem Rune
3 Lem Runes + 1 Flawed Emerald = Pul Rune
2 Pul Runes + 1 Flawed Diamond = Um Rune
2 Um Runes + 1 Topaz = Mal Rune
2 Mal Runes + 1 Amethyst = Ist Rune
2 Ist Runes + 1 Sapphire = Gul Rune
2 Gul Runes + 1 Ruby = Vex Rune
2 Vex Runes + 1 Emerald = Ohm Rune
2 Ohm Runes + 1 Diamond = Lo Rune
2 Lo Runes + 1 Flawless Topaz = Sur Rune
Ok? Picking up hundreds or thousands of trash runes and spending literally hours cubing is not really a viable or efficient option.
meanwhile u drop other runes , adding to it … im already at 2 jah by cubing runes
I play online but essentially solo. But I got to admit I play a lot! I’v found a loooot of high runes and I don’t think the droprate must be changed. If it was too easy, I wouldn’t do it. When you play it’s like you are playing a loto but with manychances to won. Even if you are looking for an Ist rune, you may drop andariel’s faces then trade it for ist… Or whatever.
Offline allows you to play without internet connexion, the game is builded for trade and multiplayer. If you choose to play offline, consider a simulation of trade viable, you just modify your saved game to remove andariel’s face then exchange for ist in your stash… It seems legit.
Modifying a saved game is not a possibility for the overwhelming majority of console players. Single player drop rates were never an issue on PC because hero editors were a thing. I could fabricate any rune, unique, or set that I wanted. That’s not the case on console. We are bound within the parameters of astronomically miniscule drop rates.
I don’t think it would really detract from the integrity of the single player grind if the drop rate of a Lo rune for example was reduced from a 1 in 800,000 chance to maybe a 1 in 250,000 chance.
I’d even be okay with a setting in the options menu that allows you to toggle between legacy drop rates and improved drop rates at the penalty of forfeiting your achievements. Those who want to stay true to the OG grind could; those less driven could enjoy the benefit of a more casual course to the endgame.
But a lot of people like the game as it is right now about droprates ^^
You should feel already blessed to be able to play that game on console!
Maybe wait and in the futur they will add some help for that part of players…
I would be very upset to see any droprate change
A lot of people like the game as it is, but a lot do not. As much as I enjoy D2, and as much as I love having it on a handheld console, I don’t necessarily care for how restricted the experience feels comparatively. I’m not sure I’d enjoy the game with the grind aspect removed, but I do think it would be nice if there were a a toggle setting to help the drop rates (much like the toggle setting for /x players). I think that would be a welcome addition for the far more casual single players.
The whole point of near impossible items to aquire is to give them epic value.
Not everything should be within your reach. Your time table. Your difficulty level. That’s what personal growth is for.
It’s like no one here can comprehend what makes a real life gem expensive. Or gold for that matter.
“Ohh how rare and shiney and powerful. I wants dis things. Can I haves easier if you all haves easier too?”
You can’t have an interesting in game economy without scarcity.
Then everyone wants to give soup to all by just adding more and more water.
“Look at all the soup we have!”
Then D2R will taste like blah.
Can always count on you to write 4 pages and a … Wikipedia page lol… To say what could be said in two sentences or less. Congratulations
You guys just want runes and would rather beg for them than find them.
Not as good.
I understand the sentiment to a degree, but let’s try to not spiral out of perspective. We are talking about a video game. And not even the entire video game, just one singular facet of the game. We are talking about single player. An economy of one.
Scarcity on Battle.net and scarcity on single player do not present themselves in the same way. If you find a Ber rune on single player, congratulations; you just found a Ber rune! If you find a Ber rune on BNet, then you may have just found a Ber rune, or a Lo, or a Sur, or a Jah, or whatever a Ber rune is worth to a particular player in a trade. Obviously scarcity still exists on BNet because only rarities will yield rarities, but do you see the vast discrepancies in how scarcity presents itself?
I don’t necessarily want the game to be easier; but given Blizzard’s aptitude in completely disregarding its player base, asking for an “increased loot drop” toggle in single player seems a lot more reasonable of an ask than “can you please integrate a complex trading system into single player in which players can utilize to turn expensive items into other expensive items.”
It’s not always that deep, bud.
Not really. I don’t actually have a problem with the drop rate of runes but overall.
I also don’t think boosting them would be bad. When you see people talking about month long “droughts” where nothing decent is found I don’t think that’s all that much fun.
One problem is people leave lesser known valuables behind and don’t trade effectively. One problem is people feel like for whatever reason that they need meta gear in order to be effective which isn’t entirely wrong in some cases
Anyway Diablo isn’t some great test of skill. Drops are almost entirely luck based, which is why people keep posting slot machine casino analogies. For a lot of people this isn’t fun
