Since assassin can open Locked chest without a key. What about having other classes Wack at the locked chest 3-5 times to open it ?
Could be kick animation or default attack
Key remains fastest way
Walking it costs you time in exchange of your lack of key
Or - we could actually make Natalya in Act 3 useful and have her give us a side quest(each difficulty) which teaches everyone Lockpicking! 
Are you suggesting that all other heroes that single handedly defeated all the prime evils should be able to crack open a flimsy locked chest? NO way, that would make it so that the assassin no longer has an extra open spot in her inventory advantage!

In regards to classes other than the Assassin picking locks, I still prefer my idea of a unique charm with the graphic of a skeleton key (same graphic as the T/H/D keys) that grants the holder the ability to pick locks. The downside is of course it taking up space in the personal inventory.
Make it roughly the same drop rate as Gheeds Fortune, roughly the same level requirement to use.

If every class could open locked chests without a key, then why have locked chests in the first place? There’s been some good alternative suggestions.
Personally, I’d like to see locked chests give better drops, maybe halfway between regular and super chests. That would give an actual reason to carry around a stack of keys.

Your entire idea basically screams that your brain (pun intended) does forget to buy some keys in town. If you have none, port home, buy new ones. The end.
All classes should have there own starting skill. Here you go:
Assassin- Opens locked chest without a key (of course)
Barbarian- Repairs durability on equipment
Sorceress- Repairs charges on equipment
Necromancer- Town portal without scrolls
Amazon- Identify’s items without scrolls
Druid- 75% base gold find
Paladin- 30% base magic find
