This bug has been there since 2022 2.4 patch I think. After killing Shank The Overseer in Frigid Highlands, the falling fire effects will crash the game whatever settings or hardware you use, mainly due to effects-related settings.
Sorry, but this is not true. Since the last game patch and an (nVidia) video drivers released in August there now might be a bit of stutter / slowdown but no more crashes.
Several players have also reported that aiming for lower overall FPS helps. For example choose a 60 FPS video mode insteadl of 120+.
If your hardware still bugs out, consider getting something better.
How do you define “TRUE” or “FALSE”? I think you’re just extremely ignorant and choose not to see the facts. It doesn’t mean it’s “false” if you don’t have it, if others have it it’s still “TRUE”. Even after two years of this bug, I can still recreate it immediately on multiple systems I have, despite it being 1660Ti, 2060, 3080, 3080Ti, 4070Ti, 4080S, or 4090. I’m doing a PC hardware-related job and this D2R crashing bug could happen on any high-end modern system.
Just an example:

err … you did NOT reproduce a crash. Your video shows slowdowns but no crashes and that’s with the smallest card on your list 1660 TI.
1st: you maxed out video settings. Common knownledge regarding animation related crashes like Shank, Mosaic Sins and others on this board is to reduce the VFX settings by one notch.
2nd: Turn off Anti-Alias. D2R does not need it.
With these two tweaks your slowdowns will be cut in half and you’ll see no difference.
Your ignorance is beyond human imagination.
My video already says, “ends with the game crash.”
I’m a PC technician and can replicate this crashing bug on any PC despite being 1660Ti or 4090. I can do this all day long. My current best GPU is an RTX 4080 Super and I still can trigger it.
This is a record on a PC with i9-14900K and RTX 4080 Super with two crashes. https://youtu.be/-qNK0FQEahY
If you know nothing about PC technology, you can just be silent and no one will blame you.
LOL@some “tech” puffing up his virtual chest thinking he knows stuff
Dude …
I just TOLD you HOW to SET your video settings to not experience these crashes anymore. This is not just from me, this is collected knownledge from this forum. It works like a charm but if you insist on being THE ÜBER PC TECH who knows better than anybody else feel free to enjoy your crash-ridden universe while other people like me run the game all day long in 60fps@2k+ fullscreen with no crashes since … at least last season?
P.S. it also helps to close any other video releated program on the PC like Browsers, the Blizzard Launcher and such. But you’ll surely ignore that piece of advice too.
You blind no-brainer is the reason Blizzard never improves its basic graphical optimizations.
It seems like you never farm Shank, so you know nothing at all. You can’t even identify basic game crash events recorded by the NVIDIA GeForce Experience I uploaded before, It’s so funny you’re telling people to “tweak this” pretending nothing happens. You don’t even know when an application crashes the video recording is terminated automatically. I recorded another video with Windows desktop UI in the background by OBS, and you call me “tech guy”. So funny.
Blizzard provides the graphic options to run the game, and our rigs run pretty well beyond your settings everywhere 4K 120FPS. Except for the Shank point, it crashes every rig with maxed settings after multiple farms. You know nothing and pretend you know everything, fake “veteran gamer”.
A similar crash would happen with some Assasin and Sorc skills when there are too many fire effects on screen, they fixed it in previous updates. The Shank crash has been there since v2.4.
One year ago one of the D2R Youtuber Ginger already acknowledged that the Shank crash bug happens on a huge amount of players no matter what their rigs are. https://youtu.be/b-4G7YQnv_U?si=ZOOuQimYRbksFcy1&t=32
Stop pretending you’re a pro.
…and it will keep doing that since you REFUSE to listen to the communities findings. I said all there is in my previous posts. It’s basically just 2 mouse clicks, so … your loss.
Fun fact:
Your 2nd video gave me an idea. Activating nVidia DLSS with “Quality” setting the game is now even slowdown free(!), no matter where i go in the game, including Shank. I can even run around in Shank’s firey death chaos and see not the slightest slowdown.
Thx!
Maybe when i got the time and in the mood i’ll record you how my D2R deals with Shank but then again … why should i care? You could try for yourself with the right settings.
The game is 2 decades old.
That in itself says theres issues
