Well, BotD gives double the attack speed (+60%), -25% Target Defense, Prevent Monster Heal, Poison Nova 20 casting every other time you kill a monster, higher Life Steal and Mana Steal, and is Indestructible so is made in Ethereal weapons. Death gives a 25% chance of casting Glacial Spike (freezing enemies around you), 50% Crushing Blow, high Deadly Strike chances (0.5 per Character Level) and is Indestructible so is made in Ethereal Weapons. Phoenix grants a Redemption Aura, giving you massive life and mana regeneration, Ignore Target Defense, and 20% Deadly Strike.
And all of those can be made in the base of your choice and worn with your choice of Helm, Boots, and Body Armor. Allowing things like Fortitude, Harlequin Crest, War Travellers. Opportunity cost is a major part of sets. Still, I’m okay with reducing the Enhanced Damage on the weapon to 250% Damage. I think that’s fine considering that the set bonus no longer has the 350% off weapon damage, which you need to take into account, and you’re not. Aldur’s weapon is really weak and the primary thing holding this set back, and it just made sense to move the ED on the set bonus to the weapon to make it viable.
High defense is not a very important stat in LoD, so fine, reduce it to 150% if that makes you feel better.
On this I have to push back though. How exactly is a Paladin running Holy Shock/Freeze/Fire supposed to also run his Conviction aura? Perhaps you are thinking of the Auradin who uses Dream or Dragon with his Conviction aura, but a Paladin using Griswald’s can’t wear any of those can he? Nor are the sockets a reasonable answer, since the only reason an Elementalist Paladin is going to use Griswald’s is so he can fill it with faucets and maybe a few Ber for Crushing Blow.
While it’s certainly true that sets are designed for certain builds, that doesn’t mean they can’t be made as flexible as possible. Mavina’s is clearly meant for a Bowazon, but that doesn’t mean it should be pigenholed to a Frost Maiden. Nor do adding Fire damage bonuses really overpower the set because most builds are one or the other. It does make this a good set for a hybrid Bowazon, but isn’t that fine? Hybrid builds are underpowered compared to the specialist so I don’t think that’s a big problem. Is there a more specific criticism of that flexibility being overpowered in some way?
Compare this to Aldur’s which isn’t even designed for either type of Druid build. Hence my focus of it on a Shapeshifter Hybrid (since that’s the closest build it seemed to fit).
Staff mods in particular ought to be more focused on a variety of builds that can work with the set. Often utility skills are worth favoring.
Added. You are right that Trang-Oul’s needs help with the Faster Cast issue.
Also added Natalya’s since it also needs buffing.
I think Tal Rasha’s and Immortal Kings are pretty well off, Aldur’s is the one that needs the most help though.
Some sets need only minor changes, like Arctic, Berserkers, Deaths, Immortal Kings, etc. Others need a major rework, like Milabrega’s, Heaven’s Brethren, Hwanin’s Majesty. Are there specific sets you think should have fewer changes?
