Server Stability

So, I decided to come back to play D2 Hardcore after finding D4 Hardcore to be way too easy (not that D2 is hard). I get maybe 1-2 hours per day to play during the week. More time on the weekend if I choose to spend my time playing.

Today, I get to spend my play time writing this forum post because the game keeps disconnecting me every minute. 25 years since the original release and they can’t provide a stable server… It’s sad really. Especially since I played the original game on dial-up internet and had a more stable connection, 25 years ago.

I don’t expect this post to change anything. I’m just killing time that I would rather spend playing the game. But since that’s not happening…

I never have any issues, might not be a server problem?

While it’s easy to point the finger at the server, it’s not the problem. The problem is the netcode for both the original game and D2:R, which is sensitive to packet loss and excessive ping variances. As little as 1% packet loss which can often go unnoticed with various other internet related tasks will eventually result in being disconnected from the game.

My internet service provider is rock solid-stable, has been so for two decades, and it’s only a couple of short hops from the internet backbone of the United States. I’ve always had a great gameplay experience with both the original game and D2:R. The seldom times that I did experience issues (other than when Blizzard was getting DDoS attacked) was usually because I was experiencing packet loss.

LOL not this again. plz.

give this other gamer the benefit of a doubt they have a stable connection while doing other things, it’s never in your best interest in 2024 to think blizzard can do no wrong.

It’s consistently stable for me.

I understand why you are salty though… having played diablo 4 so much who wouldn’t be… damn.

Make sure that you are loading into and playing in a clean environment as well … it helps so much!!!

I.E.: No maphack, No autoIt, No autoexit, No grabit, especially none of the hacks they use in so-called “pvp”, none of the many hacks out there …
