We should be able to make runewords in socketed magic and rare items, and maybe even unique and sets also.
Any stats the socketed items gives should combine with the stats of the runeword.
With uniques / sets, Potential for some lower level runewords to gain higher level fuctionality exists.
For example, (Djin Slayer)
Steel Djin slayer
+25% Increased Attack Speed
260ed (240% Enhanced Damage +20% enhanced Damage - Steel)
+3 damage
+50% Chance of Open Wounds
(150% Damage to Demons)
(300 to Attack Rating against Demons)
(Adds 250-500 fire damage)
(6% Mana stolen per hit)
(7 Lightning Absorb)
Socketed (2) (filled)
Strength Djin Slayer
275ed (240% Enhanced Damage +35% enhanced Damage - Strength)
+25% Chance of Crushing Blow
+20 to Strength
+10 to Vitality
(150% Damage to Demons)
(300 to Attack Rating against Demons)
(Adds 250-500 fire damage)
(6% Mana stolen per hit)
(7 Lightning Absorb)
Socketed (2) (filled)
Wind (Original is quite expensive (Sur) for its junky stats) Djin Slayer
10% Chance to cast level 9 Tornado on striking
400ed (240% Enhanced Damage +160% enhanced Damage - Wind)
+20% Faster Run/Walk
+40% Increased Attack Speed
+15% Faster Hit Recovery
-50% Target Defense
Level 13 Twister (127/127 Charges)
(150% Damage to Demons)
(300 to Attack Rating against Demons)
(Adds 250-500 fire damage)
(6% Mana stolen per hit)
(7 Lightning Absorb)
Socketed (2) (filled)

That would be way overpowered, you’re never going to see runewords in uniques and runewords in rares. Maybe in hero editor but never in online bnet.

Yet more “power overwhelming” suggestions from Maahes…
No.

I dont think that it would be overpowered because the existing uniques, magics, rares, sets, and runewords are underpowered so this just helps boost them up a bit.

The game is already easy enough… I don’t get why you are so adamant about making it easier. If anything, the game could use a good dose of difficulty.

Orbs of Corruption aren’t overpowered and would be a great addition to the game. That’s about as close as you could get to adding runewords to other non-base items without making the balance of the game out of control.
I was thinking about this a while back. Most things wouldn’t actually be overpowered at all, but there are a few standout combos that would be a little bonkers.
Some examples:
Crown of Ages or Giant Skull / Lore
Tomb Reaver / Hustle
Rune Master / Grief (and several other RWs)
Black Hades / Enigma, Hustle, Wealth, or any class armor RW
Headhunter’s Glory / Dream or Dragon
Moser’s Blessed / Rhyme
Strength RW on several 2os weapons for virtually free CB and LL
The craziest thing I realized though is if Sets could have RWs, you could make a full Griswold Dragon-Din! Gris Weapon HoJ, Gris Armor/Shield 2x Dragon, then throw a couple Fire Facets in the Helm. That would be completely bonkers!!

Oh geeze… imagine Grief in Rune Master…

Lets see… If this crazy idea became a reality, what rune words would Rune Master be capable of…
3 socket: Crescent Moon, Famine, Fury, Hustle, Malice, Venom
4 socket: Famine, Fortitude, Hand of Justice, Kingslayer, Oath, Passion, Phoenix
5 socket: Beast, CTA, Doom, Death, Destruction, Eternity, Grief, Honor
Yeah, Rune Master would have to be renamed to Rune Word Master.

Cannot wait for eth Runemaster Death
Seriously??
I would rather nerf like 1/4 of runewords instead…
What the…
No no please no. Rune words are so powerful already, they don’t need any buffs. Unique, set, rare and magic items need buffs.
My suggestion is to allow FCR to appear in jewels and create more powerful unique jewels.
Maybe new high level sets?

I just think of this kinda stuff as theorycrafting for the lulz. It’s just fun to think about where things could go, but yeah, it’d be way too much.
Allowing RWs in magic items (only) though could be interesting to add a little extra variety without adding too much craziness. It would make Magic items much more interesting to look for instead of being insta trash. Even at it’s worst (Engima of the Whale or Spirit JMOD), it wouldn’t break anything.

Sounds like a cool idea to try to shift meta in searching top-end items.
So far I searched rws that can be made in magic weapons with 2-4 open sockets. As that is the maximum number of sockets possible for Magic weapons.
Famine, Kingslayer, Phoenix, Infinity,… can potentialy be made in 4os Eth Magic weapon with 1 repair durability. So Ethereal version wearable by Player himself. Seems cool enough to have variations to Grief. Also to find a 4os eth magic weapon with repair durability is like lottery win.
Eth Infinity 40%ias bonus would be possible.
2os (with Larzuk help) Eth Magic Cruel weapon with Repairs durability - Steel, Strength, Wind rws. From which Wind can have very high damage - 160% + 300% = 460% enhanced damage. But doesnt offer anything else really. Still Grief better.
Faith bow with 63max dmg/5% ctc Amplify/20% ias bonus.
JMod Monarch Spirit rw.
20Fcr Flickering flame Diadem.
I think the weapon runewords will not break anything. Only add some low playthrough versions for Steel/Strength/Malice rws.
Flickering flame in Tiara,Diadem with mods like 20Fcr is very good helm, like Fire Griffon eye version.
And possibly JMod Spirit is pretty good too.
So few high/endgame options. But very many uses for Steel/Strength.

quick question, i am new here in this forum tho ive finish all my missions until diablo but i cant fine my access to baal
can someone help me? thank you for the possitive response.
If I recall correctly the idea is impossible due to technical limitations - items can’t have more than 10 or 12(don’t remember exact number) affixes, including auto mods, quality mods and so on.
Sorry but no. Many runewords are already overpowered. This wouldn’t work for many other reasons.

They need to just change this so it works allowing items more stats.
Allowing rune words to also be crafted in magic items (not rare, unique, or set) would be good.
