Rune words on any gray titled armor or weapon?

Can someone tell me if you can make a rune word in any gray titled armor or weapon even if there are stats on the item in blue writing?

If you answer “as long as it’s not magic” I don’t know what that means. So can you tell me. Because it’s not answering my question.

as long as its grey i believe u can but when u make the word those blue bonuses go away not 100% on this sorry but i do believe this is how it works… like for instance u can make etheral items into words and i believe etheral comes up written in blue even if the overall item is grey

Yes as long as it’s grey with the exact same amount of sockets as the runeword requires you can make a runeword in it. It also preserves any bonuses on the item in addition to the runeword.

Eg if you made a smoke in a 2 socket chest piece that has +5% defense on it the result would be all of Smoke’s normal stuff but instead of +75% defense you would get +80% defense.

This makes such items quite desirable as runeword bases (though I wouldn’t personally grind hard for them until you’re making end game stuff).

Grey items have either or any combination of these qualities: Ethereal and/or Superior and/or Sockets

IF the item is Superior, the base item has inherent qualities that give a natural boost to the original item and have “Blue” colored words --%15 enhanced defense/damage; +x to attack rating; if it’s a wand/orb, could have some +skills modifiers on it; etc…
When a runeword is made using such an item, the recipe will be unaffected by whether the item is Superior or not, or has any inherent +skills on them.
A RUNEWORD ONLY CARES ABOUT THE ITEM BEING MAGICAL (Blue, Yellow, Green or Gold). That means, if the item has sockets that are magically granted and has the prefix “Mechanics” or “Jewelers,” that particular item will not be able to generate the runeword you intend to use.

Hope this helps!

And yes, using a Ethereal Superior Item that has sockets is definitely the way to go if you’re going to use the item on a follower. Otherwise, you’d better hope that the runeword either makes the item repair itself, or makes it indestructible if YOU intend to use it.

Superior Items have “blue stats” and can be used for Rune Words. You are correct. As long as the item’s name is in gray text, you can use it for Rune Words.

2nd thread really dude?

if item name is white that means it is a “normal item” without sockets or being ethereal. you can add sockets to it by cube or larzuk quest which will make the item name grey.

if item name is “grey” that means it is a normal item WITH sockets or ethereal. you can add sockets if it is ethereal with zero sockets by using cube or larzuk quest. this is the type of item you need to use for a runeword.

if the name is “blue” it is magical, potentially can get 1 prefix and 1 suffix stat.

if the name is “yellow” it is rare, potentially can get 3 prefix and 3 suffix stat.

if the name is “gold” it is unique or runeword, has prefixed stats that vary

if the name is “red” it is crafted…
