Rune word in gray weapon with stats?

Can I do a runeword in any gray titled weapon or armor, even the ones with blue stats at the bottom?

The people on tutorials say “any gray…” but don’t specify.

yes the grey name means it is a normal socketed or eth item

all affixes/prefixes/superior mods will appear blue, has nothing to do with whether it is a magical/rare/unique/set/crafted/normal item

If it’s grey and is an item type like a scepter or staff that gives native +skills (or in the case of pally shields All Res or AR) is a compatible item type that has the correct sockets and not magic, then yes.
Edit: or superior

Superior can be used and that will appear in the title.

Magic items will have a name in blue that doesn’t explicitly say “magic” but has a suffix and/or a prefix. For example, Great Sword of Quickness or Cruel Great Sword, or Cruel Great Sword of Quickness. Where “cruel” is the prefix and “quickness” is the suffix. These items cannot be used.

They sure make this complicated.

Those still have gray titles?

Necro wands with +skills can be a base for white runeword, so yes, as long as the name is gray, you can runeword it

No, the magic items I described have names colored blue. Autocorrect got me so my previous post said badges instead of names.

Some magic items have a prefix such as “mechanics” or “artisans” that gives sockets but no other bonus, which can trick people, but the name still appears in blue.

One thing to keep in mind though is that to never ever make runewords in a superior item, especially if it is a melee weapon (unless the runeword makes it indestructible)… Your gold bank will thank you if you don’t lol. And then you will still have money to resurrect that merc that keeps dying to bosses over and over again .
