River of Flame Lava Issues with Possible Fix

The River of Flame lava seems to be destroying several peoples computers. There are many reports of this. I found a way to fix this, but I want community/vip feedback on if this fix is allowed.

Remove Lava in the River lf Flame

  1. Perform a casc extraction of the game files (You can do this by followign several videos such as the mrllamasc (IMPROVE DIABLO 2: RESURRECTED LOAD TIMES BY 1000%)

  2. Navigate to the Folder: Diablo II Resurrected Install Directory\Data\hd\env\model\act4\lava\

  3. Rename the act4_lava_river_flow folder to something else (such as act4_lava_river_flow-backup)

  4. Launch the game with the -direct -txt command line flags in the launcher.

Its qustionable…so idk

You are going online with modded files.

I would say developers should address this but, after a year and horrible load times even on nvme drives, they are fixated on more pressing issues like introducing end game content that is irrelevant for 99% of the population.

I figured that blizzard doesn’t seem to care about the casc extraction thing people are doing, so this isn’t really all that different. Of course if you run into any issues blizzard can refuse ‘helping’ you until you remove the -direct -txt

Of course its different. The fact that you extract files means nothing as they are identical. But you are changing them.

I honestly dont think they would identify it as something malicious, but you never know what all their system detect. I am quite carefull neber to go in game with aby of my offline changes.

Sadly nobody will confirm you its ok. Try asking blizz support and i guarantee you that they will say to you that you are not allowed to change files when you play online with it. They will never confirm to you that this harmess change is fine.

You could simply remove the act4_lava_river_flow folder. Whether ya rename it or remove it, the outcome is the same.

I agree  I recommended renaming it because its easier to recover from.

If you remove it, you achieve nothing because then its using the one in the files instead.

I don’t think you understand how this works lol. You delete the resource so it doesn’t load, its not going to use the casc.

If you download files using casc then game will use them if you set it to -direct -txt, but then if you remove it it will use the original in D2R directory. Just like when I mod the game, If I download idk Uniqueitems.txt amongst all other txts and then delete it, game will use the original one (the one i downloaded using casc)

Atleasts that how I understand the process.

Correct, if you remove the -direct -txt it will use the casc files. Otherwise it will attempt to use only the casc extraction, but since the files are missing it doesn’t load that object.
