Resists Broken vs Souls

So, i have a lvl 89 paladin, max resists 95% lightning(in hell), while also wearing tgods to give +20 lightning absorb. By all rights souls should be healing me not killing me. So why are they able to take me from 2k hp, to zero faster than i can full rejuv?

Is there a hidden physical aspect of their damage? Do they have Resistance pierce like sorceress cold mastery? Are my resistances not being correctly tallied?

I realize there is a bug once you die you lose all your anya resistances until you rejoin a game, but prior to that i shouldnt be dying to lightning ever yeah?

So what gives

i don’t remember all of the tables but isn’t there a break point of damage on lightning where it negates max res and absorb? i swear i remember high level PVP where people would min/max to either absorb versus lightning or a sorceress would have a few secondary items they could throw on to prevent absorb.

If its a boss pack that is FE or CE (and probably some other combos) you’ll get extra non-lightening damage in the attacks.

Lightning also does partial physical so if you don’t have physical dmg reduction you’re going to take damage.

I think they also do physical damage and the max cap of physical damage resistance is 50%.

in pvp in player versus player you cannot prevent absorb, you can add - resist to a element. What happened was folks would have a cold monarch with facets or gear to peirce the enemies res, so the enemy would take more damage so absorb would be alot less effective. Absorb and resist stacking go hand and hand, and play off each other.

In pvm players get full dmg, then res is factored in, souls have gltich since literally 20 years ago, were their melee attacks and lightining attacks are considered as one. Its very similar to how hammers use to be able to kill magic immunies because hammers are both physical and magic damage. So the souls when they attack their lightning attacks are fast, and maybe not register to the game as lightning so your resistance is not factored in.

basically its old glitch where the lightining dmg and phsyical dmg are considered as one, so a players resistance is not factored in.

If I remember right there’s also a bug with act 5 hell souls, something about their mana burn also does health damage because of a coding error that was never fixed, so they fry you to dust no matter what. Literally back in the day hell baal runs would just be reset if there were souls cause so few characters could handle them.

There’s probably more to it that you either didn’t see, or aren’t letting on. My lvl 80 sorc with simple maxed resists can take quite a number of hits from ordinary Act 5 black souls or even most boss packs, definitely sufficient for me to pop off a few spikes or blizz or just tele away. On the other hand, if I see amp or conviction aura, I’m out. Especially conviction in hell. I have yet to test it out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I got 1-shot by a conviction souls boss pack, much less conviction/amp/extra strong (or fast) souls pack.

thanks for the replies all, i imagine its the physical damage that im feeling and didnt know about. Was no champions or lower resist/convict to speak of so just getting reamed by phys
