Rerolling jewels and charms

I’m rerolling a jewel that was dropped by Hell Nithalak himself. AFAIK he drops ilvl 95 stuff so the jewel should make it possible to roll any of the prefixes/suffixes (http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/magic/jewels.shtml). Is this correct? I want to avoid wasting a bunch of pgems on something that has no chance to yield valuable items.

Players usually talk about rerolling hell baal charms. Some charms (like +1 skill with vita suffix or similar) sell for high runes. Which items (jewel, small/medium/large charm, etc) yield more value on average by rerolling?

I probably dropped off quite a few valuable items at Charsi while I was levelling up my character… :joy:

There are exactly two things I would spend large amounts of pgems to reroll, not counting pskull rerolls: Diablo, Nihla, or Baal grand charm, and a <ilvl80 magic Monarch

Why would you reroll this?

guessing JMOD

but thats a waste of assets imo. thing is so rare youre not gonna get it ever, probably.

it used to be worth up to ~30 HRs.
not the kind of thing you just fall upon.

This was an “if I rerolled with pgems” scenario.

I don’t bother with pgems or rerolling, so neither the charm or the jmod will ever happen via that route for me lol.

If it has virtually zero chance of yielding value then it sounds like a luxury free time activity for players who reached the top of the pyramid. I have a high level character but I’m a beginner when it comes to economy and gear optimisation. My current goal is improving my equipment and figuring out the economy around higher runes (Lo/Sur/Ber/Jah).

The most valuable things I can farm ATM are 3x3 keysets that can be sold for Gul AFAIK. I want to improve my chances of getting access to higher runes.

you should reroll GC. I got lucky 1st 3 rolls got a 45 life skiler… just saying if u pick gems why not easy if you play alot

Sort of right, but I like to put it this way rather than think about the slim chances of a monarch rolling JMOD. If you have gcs that can roll 45 to life (baal/nih/diablo/nowTZ) and an excess of them you can roll them and there will be value in even a non-45lifeskiller such as skiller or skiller+FHR or max/ar/life etc. Meanwhile if you’re rerolling a JMOD the ONLY valuable roll is JMOD.

JMOC and JMOS are both better than JMOD. So you have at least 3 rolls you can look forward to…

Better? I think maybe build dependent. Worth more? Nah. Jmod is probably 6x either of those.

Regardless even if you want to include them the charms are more easily able to be rolled into something of decent value, and the ceiling to what they can roll to 45life pcomb/light/pnb/fire/cold/ele/trap/PNB/Java. So many possible options.

JMOD still trying must be over a 1000 tries now.

In all my years playing D2 I’ve never actually used 6 perfect skulls or 6 perfect skulls and a stone of jordon to reroll a rare. I figured the devs just wanted an exceedingly expensive recipe that no one would ever use to look.

Since you’re probably going to get crap anyway I would think a fair price would be three rare jewels for the slim chance of getting a better one.

Two years passed so I have way more experience than the rookie me who created the original post. 6-pskull rerolls are performed on rare diadems exclusively because the recipe degrades the ilvl of the item and that isn’t an issue with diadems (they always have a very high alvl - 99 if I’m correct - regardless of the ilvl) so they can roll all the good attributes (like +2 class skills) even after an infinite number of pskull rerolls. Creating a rare diadem for pskull-rerolls may be the only good use case for Charsi’s imbue quest. The base defense of the diadem is also rerolled by a 6-pskull reroll so it’s pointless to waste time on looking for a starting diadem with max (60) defense.

The rerolls should be performed by a high level character because using a low level character may make it impossible to roll certain attributes (2 sockets if I remember correctly, I read about this somewhere on a random forum so this info may not be correct). The need for a high level character is mentioned even by the official description of the cube recipe on arreat summit (https://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml). This is in contrast with many other crafting recipes that ignore the character level and can be performed by level 1 mules.

I don’t do diadem rerolls at an industrial scale but performed at least 100-200 rerolls about a year ago. Certain attributes (like +2 class skills and +20% fcr) roll quite often but some other desirable attributes (like 2 sockets) seem to be rare. Rolling all of those attributes at the same time may require a lot of retries. Keeping a rare diadem and rerolling it whenever you find 6 pskulls isn’t necessarily a bad idea. It’s just another form of gambling.

EDIT:

Gambling with a gold find barb may be a faster alternative to get rare circlets and 3/20 magic circlets. I will finish levelling my very first GF barb later today or tomorrow so I don’t have a lot of experience with gambling. Don’t know the differences (in terms of attributes) - if any - between gambled and pskull-rolled rare circlets/diadems. Keeping a rare diadem and using the farmed pskulls to reroll it is fun even if gambling happens to be a superior alternative. Trading pskulls (relatively low value stuff) can be a waste of time so I don’t mind using them for rerolls.
