Replace Hire ,Item Lost

I replace my hire I lost all Item … is this a bug ?

no. you failed at reading or understanding. your entire merc gets replaced when you buy a new one.

That’s always how it works, you just learned the hard way.

Not a bug, you have to take all their gear off and xfer to new hire…

Nope; not a bug. You need to unequip all your merc items before you hire a new one, or else the items go bye-bye.

Lol same with me. I did it once but never again.

I think there definitely needs to be like a “list” of all the little details/info for all new and veteran players so they don’t make the same mistakes that we did almost 2 decades ago.
Or there can be more of a detailed (or intelligent) prompt in-game when doing these type of actions. So whenever they are doing any kind of action like these, the game will detect and tell you what will happen and what will not happen if you go through with that action as well as tell you if something is present or not present depending on what the action might be. Like for this merc gear thing, the prompt could have additional info saying that the items you currently have on your merc will be lost if you don’t remove them. Obviously the tooltips/prompts will be for the common mistakes that people might do and are not aware of.

you pretty much self pawned.

the NPC who hires out mercenaries states this pretty clearly, right? it’s not like a hidden truth. they tell you by hiring a new merc your old gear is raplced with a text box

This is true, but also not true at the same time.

It tells you that you will replace your Merc. What it does not tell you is that you can’t go back to Act 1 (or whatever) and hire that Merc again with their gear.

This is how D2 works and most vet players know that.

Newer players, esp D3 players, don’t know. In D3 your merc keeps the gear on them and you can hire and remove them at will. Very diff system. If people mix that up it can be a learning curve.

It sucks to learn, but most people only do that once.

It’s always been like this. We laugh because we’ve all been there, but let’s not kid ourselves, this is a horrible implementation and ripe for an update on this remaster.

The original devs should have made the items move to the other character and any item that doesn’t fit or can’t be used is dropped. Who ever thought this was an acceptable “feature” was out of his skull.

just done the same to my merc with eth tresher inf, eth andy and eth forti im done now

I assumed this thread was a troll judging by the name of the original poster.

I can’t imagine having gear that good and being capable of making this mistake so I’m inclined to believe you are trolling as well.

Never assume things with old games.

it’s possible for a new player to do this, if they follow a guide and don’t replace their merc they might not know the gear doesn’t transfer, drop or get put back into your inventory. The game doesn’t actually say anything about the gear on the merc being lost and newer games tend to have systems in place to prevent players from losing items like that.

It’s just an unfortunate relic of how dated some of the game systems are in d2 that it is possible for new players not to understand certain things.

I also think this should be adressed. From a technical point of view it is pretty straightforward to code it.
And I am absolutely sure, there was no game designer who said “Hey, if they get a new merc, let all the gear the old one has, disappear!”, instead it was really just lazy coding.

To make this game more popular especially for people, who have never played this game, this should really be solved.
Similar with the issue, when the button to delete a character is an “X” which looks like the “close window” button.

The Necro is strong in this one !

Just put a confirmation window saying in text what will happen. Problem solved. While suited to UX/UI standards and fitting on Pareto’s principle.

We don’t need another disaster as delete function. Bin icon in red with the confirmation screen selected on no should be good enough. No need for key pressing anyways, because was proven that wouldn’t make folks avoid mistakes anyways.

Folks who would skip steps and do it anyways are bond to exist doesn’t matter what interface they implement. So, they should have one that fits Pareto’s principle.

Creating a code for send the old gear for the new one can lead to several problems if you swap the type of merc you’re using. Not all builds act2 is the best choice anyways, but sure he is the most popular choice.

The need less problems to solve not create more. They were lazy or Just forced to use the old code anyways. Time is money and sadly devs do what they’re told to do. I’m pretty sure most of them wouldn’t had released the game 23 september and also wouldn’t had used that amount of old code anyways. But again, most of the problems right now have roots on d2, which is funny to see how bad the d2 code was.

I think there should be a warning to players about this because a new player isn’t going to know this.
