Lets be realistic
blizzard isn’t going to be able to keep up with bot detection, and banning botters run by the sell sites.
what they CAN do is make it so these sell sites need to split their resources.
and they can EASILY ban the sell site spammers, by simply adding that as a report option
this along with allowing us to block spam bots, filter chat messages, as we all make and moderate our own chat channels.
a lot of people blame JSP for the economy dying within a week.
but jsp has been around for over 15 years, and this problem didn’t start until the season 2 D2:R.
the issue is botting can be done on asia and easily spread the botted items to all other realms.
while the botters certainly have many more resources than the d2R team, they’re still limited.
make them split their bots, ban their sell site spam accounts. will it fix everything? no of course not… but it would significantly help.
I’m curious if the supposed “update” to player reporting is actually going to do anything. It hasn’t seemed to work since the release of D2:R… At this point, the only plausible update to player reporting is to change it from non-functional to functional.
As far as the “how”, my guess would be they have enabled more automation to give power to the player to police themselves.
If true, it could have an impact on botters and spammers alike… They would at least need to retreat from the public eye of the player to prevent actioning on their accounts. I see it being more effective at reducing spammers than botters.
If they would region lock the game that would also mean that EU could have better timed ladder resets because 2AM ? what the hell is that even…

While the current bots seemingly tend to be asian made. It doesn’t change the fact that botters exist on all realms. Those who make their money on NA would simply find a way to bot on NA if that is what they wanted to do. I really like being able to trade with everyone.
They use the spam bots because they’re not getting punished sure, but that won’t stop them. A monthly 20 dollar tax is probably well worth it to them even if they do get banned as long as they’re getting their advertising done.
The economy death is a part of the entire D2R history period. Yes, I know bots accelerate it, and that the current ones do so at a crazy pace, but even a bot free ladder, will still have the eventual decay we see now. You can only wear one shako at a time, eventually when everyone finds a shako per character the price of the shako market goes down. It just is what it is.
What you wind up with is a better chat lobby, that is still designed poorly, with less spam sure, but still not usable for anything worthwhile. And you still have the exact same bot problem with the economy, only perhaps it is 3% less efficient, which they won’t care about.
Dont region lock pls I want to be able to play USA/EU to avoid low player hours and trade with whole world. Also better ladder start time is only once 3-4 months, so its not a factor at all.
if you want to be able to trade with the entire world your going to deal with an economy that ends within a week…
if that’s the trade off you want. that’s perfectly fine. that’s your choice
but you need to realize that it IS a tradeoff.
trying to pretend that having global trade doesn’t enable the sell site to ruin the game worldwide and make every issue with botting over 10-50x worse on NA is completely delusional.
i am of the opinion global trade isn’t worth this massive of a down downside.
if you with that downside and you would give up the economy and allow bots to run rampant, just to keep global trade. you can have that opinion.
i just want to make people know that the tradeoff is there.
and global trade comes at a huge price.
and that you’re choice is an informed choice
Blizzard is probably behind the rmt sites.
honestly at this point… it wouldn’t surprise me… i cant think of any reason to not allow us to block the sell site spam
That’s a spicey conspiracy right there ! lol
