Recommendations for [Classic] beginner Necro?

Hi folks,

I’m slumming around in offline Classic, and decided to give the Necromancer a try. I’m following the beginner build guide here…

…because the Sorceress and Paladin builds have worked out well, and so far it’s going OK (level 15 and no deaths, though the kill speed is meh and the Barracks and beyond hit pretty hard). I’ve stashed 75% poison resist away, so not too worried about Andariel.

My question is: are there any particular tips or recommendations for progressing solo as a Necromancer [in Classic]? Is there a point where the class really ramps up? How should I approach bosses like Mephisto and Diablo who aren’t really suckers for Iron Maiden and can easily nuke summons?

I believe I utilized Decrepify on both, which resulted in Mephisto eventually dying. I don’t remember struggling on him at all really. Diablo did manage to kill my army, but they got him low enough for me to finish him with Clay Golem + Iron Maiden.
