Reason to play D3 or D4?

Is there any reason to play D3 or D4 since we have D2?

Apples and oranges. A lot of people started playing on D3 and prefer that type of game. Usually the kind of people who want a more casual experience. It doesn’t really work as a sequel to D2 tbh.

D4 has better options for maintaining the integrity of who you play with/ how you progress

Maybe because both games are fun in their own way.

If you’re interested in the D lore, then d3 kinda continues the story of d2.

No clue about d4, didn’t play that. Just read the synopsis and it feels underwhelming to me, esp. the expansion. That one seems to me like one big set-up for more without anything really substantial getting done.

Well technically Diablo Immortal directly continues the story of D2 but in a way that makes you wish it didn’t

After having killed 2/3 prime evils (PE) and 2/4 lesser ones in vanilla d2, lod with the last PE kinda forced itself into this world.
But it kept me wondering what was going on with the other 2 LE. D3 answered that, yay. ;-D

I never touched DI, so do you fight D himself? (d4, i know, rofl)

I didn’t get that far in that gambling machine, but it supposedly tells the story of what happened shortly after the worldstone was destroyed (which D3 kinda skipped?). I don’t think Diablo is there.

No, there’s no reason to play d3 or d4 if d2 appeals to you. They’re not designed in the same vein, and d2 is still the last diablo game that Blizzard has offered. It’s crazy that they can’t identify what made d2 good and build on it for a new diablo title. They’ve done the exact opposite with d2r by taking d3 game design in the form of mosaic and putting it into d2, thereby making d2 worse.

Blizzard doesn’t know how to make game anymore.

I’ve played D2 nonstop for 25 years. Every 1.5-2 years I get an itch to play D3. I enjoy the endgame and think the things they added post expansion were really good. I think what appeals to me about it is it’s easy to build a character, get them good pretty fast, and continuously upgrade. I also like that you can easily see your improvement by times and GR levels you’re beating. I lose interest once it gets to where you’re literally adding stats by augmenting items. It turns into a massive grind with diminishing returns.

D4 I said I wasn’t going to buy and ended up doing the preorder thing on release weekend because I happened to have a night where I could play it and ya know, new Diablo… Since the first month of release I haven’t played it since and haven’t even really wanted to. There were some things I liked about it, but for the most part I thought it sucked. I also started to really get annoyed with the story being - “this way is blocked, let’s find another way around it!” Yep, D2 for me…

Why is there a reason to play any game at all?
Because it’s fun, for those who play D3, D4 or whatever game is that they enjoy it. There is no need or reason other than enojoyment.
Well except for e-sports.

True, I feel this too. When I was younger and thinking about a D2 sequel, I thought it was so simple; just make D2 but more/better. Idk how they took a winning/perfect formula and said “nah” then went in a completely different direction. And sadly no game except maybe PoE (which I haven’t played but have heard) has even come close to using the same perfect formula but more/better. Don’t get me wrong I put my time into D3. It was fun for what it was. If I wanted another Gauntlet Legends type of game, D3 was basically that on speed. But it was not Diablo. And D4 I knew would just be a shameless grotesque money grab, so I never got it, especially since D2R was released I never felt a need or reason to waste my money.

3 diffrent games. As someone who love the francise (3k+ hours in each game) i dont realy get why so many ppl hated on D3. Yes, is WAY TO EASY since RoS release, but still fun. For >ME< its D2 > D3 > D4. I Love D2, but from time to time i just get tired. I realy try to enjoy D4 but the itens are so bad like 0.2% chance to 3.24sec of 1.28% extra damage when its raining past mid-night.

Also, if i ignore the online and monatization aspect of it, i think Diablo Immortal its a good diablo game.

D2 is my favourite game all time.
I played 15k hours D3 since season 1 and had much fun as well in group speed, pushing with voice and Solo optimizing gear stats and pushing 150 to limit for leaderboard.

D3 game is chill too and pushing your max limit with your skills, experience, rng and luck factor is very fun as well.
Can remember many attempts where I cleared a Grift 150 with 3 sec left was awesome and heartbeat was high as hell xD

D4 is not fun for me through.

Imo D2R>D3>D4 from fun factor and graphic wise D2R>D4>D3.

I have thousands of hours in D3 also. It’s good brainless fun. It’s just so…pointless? I always feel like a hamster running on its wheel, which destroys the illusion for me. Again it’s like I really love Gauntlet Legends, that was a great co op game with friends, but it was basically mindless with little room for growth or choice. Maybe D3 should have been called Gauntlet Legends 2, it just seems so strange it’s called Diablo

True but sometimes cleaning up catshint can be fun, it’s like digging for gold

It’s not like that anymore, at all. There are no conditional affixes anymore and haven’t been for months. They have a group finder. They pretty much fixed all the biggest complaints but people still complain about an endgame that can hold their attention. This is where D2 players fit in. They can run the same content repeatedly for days. Pits and infernal hordess are perfect for D2 players.
