A feel like a solid buff to rare jewels would increase itemization and allow other items (uniques specifically) become more competitive with runewords. Rare jewels pretty much suck minus a couple of mod rolls. You should be able to sink one in a unique item and give it an significant improvement.
The basic changes:
- They should roll up to 6 mods, not just 4 (could be ilvl related).
- Increase the number of affix and suffix options available.
- Fix the %ED and +dmg bug in non-weapons
- Increase the potential quality of each roll (ie buff 30% ed max) OR allow for double rolls (for example 2 rolls on %ed leading to a bigger number).

No, they don’t suck and are often worth a huge amount when they roll right.

Are they? jewels are used for crafting outside the unique ones. Do you have a screenshot of some awesome, mind-blowing jeweled up weapons/armor?
I’ve never, ever found a rare jewel worth using once.
The main problem is not that rare jewels don’t roll big enough values
It’s ok if magic roll bigger, it’s their flavour
The problem is that there is not enough interesting mods in the affix pool to make them good
If there were more good mods that could roll it would be nice
Ie: 30ed, 10ias, 10% deadly strike jewel would be a nice competition for 40/15
I think they would be more fun and useful if they could double down on prefix and affix. Rather than a long string of semi useful affixes.
So if it rolled 2 prefix 2 affix, ic could be a 30 IAS 80% jewel. Which as you say, would help uniques (with their great and interesting graphics). Such a jewel here, would bridge the huge gap to Fortitude.
I also think high runes should be buffed heavilly in their single item use. Ohm for example 100% Ed.Gul rune should give 10 fcr. Also to make uniques on par or even better than the runewords, after Grief has been fixed.
Edit: and as Sekscalibure is saying, suffixes souch as Deadly strike, or faster block rate, would be nice to see too. If you make a runeword in a shield today, and the runeword doesn’t give faster block or higher block chance, then there’s nothing you can do about it.
Uh…you know rare jewels can be insanely good/strong, right? Just because you haven’t found them, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I just sold a not entirely GG but still pretty GG rare jewel for a Vex…can only imagine what a truly GG one would bring.

Rare jewels are already godly. -15% req in a stormshield or coa is already worth 23-26 stats points, add to it 10 all res, 7 fhr, and maybe an other 30 res. That’s just insane for a single socket.
Single rare jewel :
26 vitality
7 FHR
10 Fire res
10 Cold res
10 Poison res
40 Lightning res

I agree on the %ed/max damage bug, but not on the rest.
If they implement what you’re suggesting it won’t change anything, because it’ll make rolling a good jewel even harder than it is now. You will still use mostly magic jewels because they have better rolls than rares or 3(maybe 4 if you’re really lucky) affix rare jewels.
as i play this game at the age of 30 instead of 15 there are two item types i wish they would make more useful and one major change to regular unique items (lower the level req on like 50% of uniques because anything with a level req over 50 is basically useless unless it’s one of the 20 value items)
large charms and rare jewels.
every single character over the level of 60 is just attempting to min/max skill GCs with a gheeds, torch, anni and small charms with either life or res or ar/dmg/lifers or MF or whatever. the only usable large charm is the torch.
the life on a large charm should be higher than 40 because you can replace those two large charm slots with two small charms that can have up to 2 more separate affixes that a large charm cannot also add up to.
or 40/15, facet, whatever one of the 4 useful magic jewels.
If uniques need to be competing for the same spots that rune words have then fix the uniques themselves. Instead of relying on jewels to do that for you. Because now you would be forced to find something that would be hard to find just to have it boost the unique you want to boost.
