from what i am told Diablo series was very much meant to be dark, gritty, no holding back sort of game. Not that it was meant to make any kind of statement but definitely made it stand out in comparison to a lot more tame games at the time.
I too delight in the atmosphere of this game, the little details. How the durance of hate is literally covered in blood with pools and smears everwhere on the floor.
No caution signs though, Mephy is opening himself up for a serious slip and fall lawsuit if you ask me. 
yeh I still stop now and then trying to figure out whatâs going on with the really messed up bodies.
There is a guy in chains who bled out trying to escape the ancient tunnels in act2 lol

I mean back then it was very very different times in a lot of ways. Diablo 2 was heavily inspired by rogue likes and dungeons and dragons. Just the atmosphere of the game, and back then no one cared much. No internet to go whine about any of it.

I saw a random naked woman as well somewhere⌠I think it was the barracks where the Smith is in Act 1? Or maybe not. I am not sure. But she was hanging on the wall by her hands from a ceiling, all bloodied, naked but with her stomach being all eaten out or whatever (you can see intestines and stuff). That kind of really shocked me and disgusted me but made me more interested to zoom in and look at more things. Also, the Harem level and Palace Cellar in Act 2 has women (clothed) all bloodied on the ground and stuff.

That would not be the case. Succubi in D1 has hair that sits tight, like if they were sporting a ponytail or something (dunno how to describe it properly in english) Only piece of cloth they have on, is a thong.
I did play D1 years and years ago I didnât even remember they where topless. I did remember Andy on D2 has a pole dancer costume on though for some reason
