Quick Question about Rune Words

Hello all! So there are many sets of Rune Words:

  • Original
  • 1.10
  • 1.10 Ladder only
  • 1.11
  • 2.4 Ladder only
  • 2.5 Ladder only

At the moment, I play on-line, non-ladder characters.

In the current version of D2R, are the 1.10 and 2.4 Rune Words still only for current Ladder characters?

Blizz seems to not be doing what they said they would do for NL chars. So until new runewords are added to the game, the last runewords added to ladder are still ladder only. All other previous runewords should be available in NL and SP

I think it is easier to think of the RW sets like this:

1.10
1.10 Ladder only
1.11
D2R S1 (Wisdom, Flickering Flame, Pattern, Unbending Will, Mist, Plague, Obsession)
D2R S3 (Bulwark, Cure, Ground, Hearth, Temper, Hustle, Mosaic, Metamorphosis)

When D2R launched, they made the 1.10 LO RW available to create on NL and SP.
So any item that could drop or be created in legacy D2 LoD can drop in NL D2R.

When they introduced the S1 RW, those were ladder only until S3 introduced new LO-RW.

Since neither S4 or S5 released new RW, the S3 RW are still ladder only. All other RW, including S1, are available to create in online non-ladder and offline Single Player. The S3 RW are still Ladder Only.

Okay so all Rune Words are available for non-ladder characters, except the ones introduced in D2R season 3 (Bulwark, Cure, Ground, and so on).

I got over a dozen NL characters that have completed Normal difficulty, and will take some of those through the Nightmare and Hell difficulties. Good to know what the build options are.

You’re welcome glad it was helpful! The communication from the devs hasn’t been the best on the plans over time, so this is a confusing topic, but it seems they have normed on only moving RW to be able to be created in NL when they introduce a new patch, always keeping at least some LO-RW.

Yeah I could understand that, keeping an extra bonus just for Ladder play.

I don’t think they’ve stopped with new RWs yet, but eventually when they do stop, whatever the latest RWs are at the time will probably never come to NL. :sob:

This is also my fear, but that’s also how the legacy game was with LO-RW always being LO, so if that happens, it won’t be the worst thing. I’m actually going to do a run up in S5 (yes I’m late and haven’t even started yet!) just to get some Cures and Hustle to play with on NL when S5 expires. I could see it being more annoying if we end up with RW that are more expensive to get, but at least you only have to do it “once”.

all runewords are available on singleplayer as soon as they’re available for ladder players. its only nonladder that has late access to anything.
