Hey all, got a quick question about a couple different armors and which would be best to make a fortitude out of for a mercenary. I found a 4os ethereal dusk shroud with 595 defense and I know it’s light armor with some solid defense.
Question is, even with this defense, would a medium armor like Sacred Armor with lower defense be better for a mercenary or does higher defense outweigh class types? Also, if I were to sell it in the future, which would hold its value more?

Hello there; For your merc you’re going to want the highest def you can get, regardless of armor type. That also applies to your resell value. The most sought after bases are 900+ so you’ll want to get as close to that as you can.
EDIT: Based on the next reply I had to do a quick google as I always thought I knew that armor type does not affect mercenaries. And while my search results do still tell me some people are spreading that information around, it doesn’t appear to be accurate. So my answer would not be accurate: You will still want as high defense as you can, the 900+ armors are heavy types which might not jive with your build! My apologies for my mistake sir.

Hi DuckHunter, thanks for the information! Much appreciated
595 is too low (consider Fortitude is worth Lo). If you want light armor, you can easily find one with 700+ defense, or buy one with Um or less. Otherwise if you don’t care about merc movement speed, you can go with medium/heavy armor.

Makes sense, thanks for further clarifying you guys! I went ahead and just made a Stone for now out of this and threw it on my merc since it’s better than a Duriel’s Shell at least LOL.
Anyone else find Fortitude underwhelming on a merc? I upgraded from Gladiator’s Bane/Treachery and didn’t see much difference in survivability. In fact, Gladiator’s Bane (non eth) seemed best out of the 3.
With a good CtA now he never dies anyway but I dunno, expected more after buying an expensive base + using a Lo on Fortitude. Could also just be my perception.
Fortitude is a solid defensive armor, but it’s also got 300% to damage. If your merc isn’t just an insight bot, the extra damage with a high damage weapon helps a lot. That said, there are definitely cheaper options with solid defense for builds that don’t rely on mercs for damage.
