But where are you walking? Are you trying to do a Baal run by walking from Harrogath…? I’ve had plenty of games where we walk through Tombs or WSK so you must be walking to some obscure spots no one cares to run. Otherwise start a new character with people, you’re gonna be forced to walk…
if people don’t care to run certain spots then i honestly don’t expect them to join. I’d be okay if no one ever joined but if someone wants to walk an area feel free to join.
There is a deep seeded rush culture within the game amongst the veteran players that know the game well. Many want to just finish Hell, get the main quests for their stats, resists, etc and then target farm what their character is built for, there are pvpers just wanting to get their pvp character kitted, and just to reach the most efficient exp zones, such as Chaos and Baal in Hell.
In terms of walking through the game in general, for most folks, there is no real benefit to doing so in a group. People join multiplayer games mainly for the efficiency of speed, or increased exp gains in key points of the game, especially through the lower levels where exp from higher area zones are throttled (such as pre-level 25 not being able to really gain any exp in Act 5, and kill speed is too slow to make farming Act 4 worthwhile).
Loot is another factor. While not as bad as loot from boss runs (such as Baal where you barely even see the loot drop), public games tend to have vacuum players or people highly knowledgeable in what to pick up (or cheat by using loot filters, pickit, etc), where the loot isn’t properly shared. Greed before need. Thus there is barely an incentive to walk as a group, especially through Hell where the best stuff (high runes) have the best rates. Not all quests are co-op friendly, such as the Hellforge in Act 4, where it only pops once and the prize is supposed to be split by all team members (probably the dumbest quest by design in my opinion for a multiplayer setting).
When Ladder starts, its a mad dash to A5 Hell so people can start farming areas, including Cows, for loot that they can use and/or sell at high prices. Once they’ve established themselves, they’re in a mad dash to the end game with new characters because, as has been mentioned, they’ve played the story multiple times and walking can be arduous and frustrating(looks at Act 2 and Act 3 in particular).
So if you’re looking for people to join you in walking Acts, it’s unlikely to happen save for the Completionist/OCD people out there that can’t stand having a missing waypoint/quest.
So there’s really two ways to progress, there is rush and their is walking. I think generally even people “walking” would want to progress at some faster rate. So if people join and say they have wps for the act you’re in, they are trying to help.
Walking to me just means not a rush. It can be slow or skip around.
The way I take it is that there is nobody to teleport in the game so it could be a game that is looking for someone to teleport. That basically everyone is going to be walking unless a teleporter shows up.
If I want a game where there’s no teleporting, I will just say “no rush” in the game name.
I believe they are offering to help out of good will, cause most ppl will prefer someone to help with TP to save time. They wont know that you dont want their help unless you put something like “no rush”.
Sometimes i also create game like “baalwalk” but I appreciate someone come in and TP instead of me walking game after game.
a lot of us have done this so many times, that we just want to get on with the show already. we find other players, and hope they are willing to work with us to get through it faster.
I sometimes drop into these games and offer a rush, but I dont force it. I know some folks like to just stop and smell the roses, that’s completely fine. you get a lot of lvls doing that, and by time you hit a5 you are at or beyond lvl 25
Ja Hadley333, that is one of the main issues; when people think they “play” this game. Really playing is not rushing through it asap. It got worse over the years, which is unfortunate, yet do not let those type of “players” bring you down.
I usually play the game once completely through, every little corner and cave, per season and that was it then for me. I personally do not participate in this “quick quick quick” scenarios and enjoy the game like it was once intended. Yet the generation, “I want it all and I want it yesterday” is in the majority. We have to live with it and not let them make the game kaput for people like us.
i tend to only play through the game at the start of ladder where people can join me…
but yeah, its an issue. at the start of ladder is when most people want rushes
whats MOST annoying is people running past packs of mobs in an 8 player game and i stand there like BRUH WTF
i could KILL this in a 1 player game maybe even 3 or 4… but not in 8
not on a brand new char… at the start of ladder… stop running ahead and HELP
Speaking of EU softcore (don’t know about America/Asia; hardcore is a whole different ballpark).
Traditionally “walk” in the title meant “I don’t have teleport” or "I want to clear everything between here and the boss. Usually the only walks are Diablo and Baal.
If you want to make the whole act or area by walking, usually it’s “Act X all”, “Act X no rush”, “Act X all Q”, etc.
