Interesting!!! What is desync? And can you recommend any of those single player communities? I am hearing more and more tantalizing comments in favor of offline play.
The main reason I stopped multiplayer (and almost D2R) is because the number of builds is limited to 20. I play offline now.
It’s already low 20 but the main problem is if you make mules to stock your valuable items (runes, jewels, charms, weapns, armor, etc.). It’s very easy to have many mules leaving you little builds left to play (unless you delete them).
MasterBLB - all those game aspects you had mentioned earlier, like Players X commands, character editing, and mods, were those designed for PC gaming, or can they all be done on a PS5 as well?
Desync is when monsters are in a different place than they seem to be. It may look like there are 2 monsters attacking you, but it’s actually 6. Happens often in online play.
The single player people are over at purediablo, in the forums there. Be sure to read the rules.
Well the team benefit applies to questing as well, you can really chew through the game to access Hell content much faster than you can solo play.
Combine that with the item and gear trading, collecting some wealth either in runes, items, or trading site currency.
Please do not listen haters like toddwick, dont take what he said seriously.
That being said. Main power of multiplayer is ability to enjoy game with others. Your characters are separated from offline completely. People mainly play season where its fun to start from 0 just like everyone else. Trading allows you to build characters you would not otherwise make that easily offline unless you use hero efitor.
You can also try pvp online. You can play solo, but point its much better to make friends and play with them. There is plenty of friendly communities to join.
Multiplayer is amazing, go try it and make up your opinion i made there many good friends over the years and have great memories from playing with others
Also dont take too much attention to that desync thing. Its not as bad as that guy said.
Also feel free to join our community to find people to play with or ask any question as you are new player. We have plenty of good people who will gladly help.
Sadly I have no experience with playing on consoles. However, players X should be available on PS5, as this is in-game command which you type in chat.
Editing characters - well that depends if your console has some internet browser, and you can edit files on the device. If you can, then you could use ex. this save editor:
https://d2s.dschu012.dev
Mods - I suspect these are not available, but make research if D2R stuff from ex. nexusmods can be installed on consoles.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but offline allows you unlimited respecs, which online does not (you have to grind for Tokens of Absolution to respec after you use up your 3).
So its unlimited also… You just have to farm or buy tokens. In fact offline you cant buy them and using that command line is kind of cheating
But yeah its good to test stuff.
The “multiplayer” in this game is people playing alone in private games 90% of the time doing “mf runs” while occasionally join “baal runs” when needed for EXP, and bots/ exploiters trying to make money from the game or “trading currency”.
It is a very anti-social game (drops are fought for and pick-it scripts is rampant, exp is fought for, lots of toxicity with broken “PvP” system using hacks, etc.).
I would say don’t listen to this disrespectful poster. Toddwick wrote nothing but the truth. Also, get ready for this posters 100 spam posts now.
Thanks, Zahramar! Honestly, I have little intention to play multiplayer (in pairs or groups), or really to trade as well. It was said above that offline has its perks, but unfortunately that was for the PC version - I am playing on a PS5. So most of that was not applicable to me. Can I just play offline and have fun with it?
Yes. The primary things you miss out on with consoles are the -seed (map seed ID which allows you to keep the same seed between difficulties in offline mode), -enablerespec (free respec at any time, but requires you to fully respec. You can’t just move a couple points around), -direct -txt (for loading mods and/or decompressed game data files on PC for faster loading). You get the /players X command built into the offline UI on all versions of D2R.
So essentially the PS5 version’s offline mode operates identically to online mode except for /players X and the fact you get static maps until you change difficulty levels. You also get the benefit of something only more modern PCs usually get, which is faster loading via the PS5’s internal NVMe based SSD and/or the NVMe slot. Be aware that the game’s CASC filesystem is highly inefficient and prone to fragmentation after just a few patch cycles. For optimal gameplay, you should do a full reinstall of the game after every major content patch (end of season prepatches) or else over time the loading will slow down bit by bit. This is true for any platform due to them all using CASC as the filesystem for D2R.
Edit: Something to note about linking a Battle.net account and PSN account - you can link a PSN account to a Battle.net account even if the PlayStation user does not have a PS+ subscription. However, you cannot play the Battle.net characters on the PS4/PS5 without PS+ as Battle.net is considered online. If you do not have a PS+ subscription active, you will always be in offline mode.
Thanks so much, TheTias!! I appreciate your help. I have been playing some offline gaming, and have amassed some loot that I would like to keep, and I have put time into my character. Can you further explain map seed ID? I am not familiar with that. Something I was told in an earlier thread was to just have fun with Diablo II: Resurrected and enjoy the game. If I am not interested in PvP, group gaming, trading or the ladder system, why not just play my offline character and have fun??
Map seed ID is a special seed number that when entered alongside the -seed command line argument on the Windows version (e.g. -seed 130304) allows you to retain the layouts of the overworld maps even if you change difficulties. This is especially useful if you find a good Lower Kurast map with two bonfires close to each other early on in the game and want to keep that for later farming in Hell for high runes. Without the -seed command, maps will be static within a difficulty, but will be reset when swapping between any of the Normal/Nightmare/Hell difficulty levels.
I think most players, even those like myself that are likely contributing to your “information overload” would tell you the same thing: Just enjoy the game. Don’t worry about what you miss out on from the PC version, just enjoy what’s there. Make use of the features available (especially the Players command in the offline UI) and just go to town on the demons. Check the excess baggage at the counter and board the flight to Hell and don’t look back.
Yes!! I have had so much thrown at me since I went to online forums to see my options between offline and online play. It seems that most players will opt for multiplayer, but I have little interest in that. I just want to play and have fun - that is why I bought the game. This has been information overload, but everyone was just trying to help.
The only thing you really need to know is that players8 works offline and doesn’t work online. And these days you don’t even need to type it in the chat window. It’s now a slider under gameplay options.
All the other stuff mentioned in this thread kind of doesn’t matter until you’ve played for 1000 hours. So relax and have fun!
Thanks so much to everyone for your help!!! Have a great day, and happy gaming!!
What does SSF mean?
Also, what do you mean by " If/when they allow p8 in nonladder it will be worth playing and the mode to be in"? I haven’t played D2R online at all, and rarely played online in the OG game, so I have little understanding of what “the ladder” even is. When I play offline in D2R I can set player count at all. Do you mean you want to be able to set player count in online games, provided they are “nonladder” games?
