Hey guys, had a question about the runeword Infinity.
Its a polearm word so you give it to your merc, but there is a stat on there that says it reduces enemy’s lightning resist by x%. Does that benefit your lightning damage or just the lightning sources from the merc?
Only reduces Lightning Resistances of monsters for your merc. To your character, the monster’s resistances remain untouched by the effect of Infinity.
Only works for you if you equip it.

If that’s right, there are a WHOLE lot of Sorc’s out there that wasted 2xber ist for an item that does nothing. Who has a merc that does tons of lite dam?

Conviction aura is the reason why people use it on their Mercs.

Ohh i get it. So when people break my balls over -46 lite on an infinity, it really has no effect? Ya people don’t know that.
So the -lite dam stat is not relevant. Good to know So just the ED matters
There’s a handful of people who will play Light Sorceresses that will use Infinity over an Oculus, Eschuta or Death’s Fathom purely because that huge dent to Light Resistances can make up for a lot.
Right, i have seen them but they want non eth infinity, Ok thanks!
its right thats why some ppl try to find ways to wear the infinity themselves but i dont think its worth it.
infinity is still hugely beneficial even if its on your merc - even for a summon necro.
lol well eth or non eth dont matter if you’re wielding on your char, it ain’t going to lose durability so they just want lower requirements and if it is eth it makes it even easier to wield (eth removes 10 from strength + dex requirements)
yes in general the -light resists is pointless on a merc but d2/d2r players are peculiar, they love to pay extra for things with near perf if not perfect stats.
why would it not lose dura? Because you are not striking with it? So weapons don’t lose dura from being hit the way armor does i guess? The reason i ask is because my hammerdin uses eth travs and they lose dura, even tho i am a caster.
Also, does dying cause dura to go down on eth weapons i am wielding? TY!
yes it does not lose durability because you are a caster, you never physically hit with your weapon. I try to use eth weapons on all my casters, eth looks much more stylish and like i said less str/dex requirements.
your hdin’s boots are different, it is an armor, you are getting hit…should be logical.
no dying does not remove durability from your weapon, only armor items.

Thanks!!! here are some more characters… free.
Oh i did not know that. Thank you
no, it’s relevant for any lightning damage the merc does. so much misinformation in this thread.
so, infinity runeword has a 50 percent chance to cast level 20 chain lightning when you kill an enemy.
this means that every other enemy that the merc kills, will cast chain lightning. every enemy hit by this chain lightning will have their immunities broken by the conviction aura, and then their lightning resistance reduced even further by the -% enemy lightning resistance stat.
since conviction is an aura, it means the merc will be doing MASSIVE lightning damage to huge packs, and even good damage to lightning immunes that are affected by conviction.
are you kidding me? Level 20 Chain Lightning does 1 to 281 damage, lmao… with conviction + lightning pierce it still does trash damage. If that is massive, then what do you consider 6 K Chain Lightning from my Light Sorc? OP, gamebreaking, unbelievable?
massive for damage done by a mercenary, yeah. of course it isn’t going to compare to a fully spec’d lightning sorc’s output.
a level 12 conviction aura is -85% to enemy resistances. due to the way percentage calculations work this is way more of a damage increase than having a +85% to lightning damage effect. it’s why it was actually gamebreaking when cold mastery broke immunities when D2R first launched.
lol no… it still isn’t “massive”. Your Merc should be easily dishing out 3 K damage… plus most characters that use an Infinity merc is either Javazon or Light sorc so why you would need to rely on your merc casting a 1-281 chain lightning is beyond me.
i never said rely on it. even with just an insight my merc does more like 3400 damage. it’s just a little extra damage but it adds up when you have whole packs of trash caught in his conviction aura.
