Question about crescent moon damage

Ok I’m just asking for rough estimations here so basically let’s say I got the first set up:

  1. crescent moon with -35 lightning res plus griffon eye socket with rainbow facet which is another -25 lightning res and I have about 35k lightning damage.

  2. Now we look at the second set up a griffon eye -25 lightning res and rainbow facet and HOTO instead no minus lightning res with let’s say a total of 40-42k lightning damage

So giving me a rough estimate that 1st set up with crescent moon and griffon eye with 35k damage is probably roughly dealing a total of 55-65k damage? Whereas the second set up with just hoto and griffon eye is dealing roughly 45-50k? So even though the griffon eye and crescent moon set up has less damage written on screen it’s still roughly dealing about 55-65k true damage? Or is it only like a few thousand more than the hoto griffin eye set up and not 10+ damage more? I’m just asking for rough amounts trying to get an idea about how much damage the crescent moon and griffon eye set up does cause since I’m sacrificing one or two skillers that give damage because I need more resistances with small charms I wanna know at least I’m still dealing significantly more damage than using the hoto set up and griffon eye and adding back those two extra skillers. So I’m just trying to get an idea that even though I have two less skillers for the res small charms I’m still dealing that 55k+ damage unlike the hoto with more skillers and not using the small charms res.

Also at what point does my damage from crescent moon not be any different and I might as well just use a HOTO? Like if my damage was 30k instead of 35k then I’m not doing anymore damage then using a HOTO that I might as well just use the HOTO? Or is even the damage in my first example of 35k not anymore then HOTO and it’s not until I reach like 37k ok crescent moon that it does more than the HOTO of 42k?

I feel like as long as I’m doing 35k with a crescent moon and griffons eye I’m doing more damage than that 42k set up of just HOTO and griffin eye and if I get any lower than 35k damage with the crescent moon and griffon eye that it’s no different than using the HOTO and griffin eye set up with 42k damage and I might as well just stick with the HOTO at that point for the defensive abilities.

The figures you listed kind of answer themselves for you. 35k Damage with -60 Enemy Lightning Resistance(Griffons + Crescent) compared to ~40k Lightning Damage with -25 Pierce. Assuming the target has 0 Resistance(makes things easy), you do the following:

35 x 1.6 = 56k
42 x 1.25 = 52.5k

The difference will become ever more glaring the more Resistance the enemy has and especially if you happen to run into a Lightning Immune that you sunder via the Crack of the Heavens Charm. Should you sunder a Lightning Immune, you’ll do the following:

35k x (.05 + .60) = 22.75k
42k x (.05 + .25) = 12.6k

Do note that Infinity in those situations works at 20% effectiveness and hence only adds 17% or .17 to above. Against everything else, it works at 100% so adds 85% pierce to both. The more pierce you have, the more damage you’ll ultimately deal. Raw power doesn’t mean a thing if you can’t pierce their Resistance in the first place.

Self-wield Infinity + Griffons can yield upwards of -80% pierce(which is quite substantial and doesn’t factor in Conviction or another 17%(Sundered) or 85% for a max of 165%!). Your point of diminishing returns is at -100 Enemy Resistance and is dependent on the target. Some targets have way more Lightning Resistance than others but by prioritizing -Enemy Lightning Resistance, you can farm pretty much everywhere, even Lightning resistant areas.

Edit Hope I made some sense lol. TLDR: 5-7k more Lightning Damage is nice but only makes a notable difference if you can pierce the target’s Resistance. Like if you were playing with a Paladin rocking level 25 Conviction for you, then Griffons is pretty much all you would need because 150 + 25 = -175 Enemy Resistance(for anything not Lightning Immune). It’s only against Lightning Immune enemies where having as much pierce as possible truly pays dividends.
