I keep reading and hearing about the pure Diablo 2 experience in the Forums. To me “purity” is a buzzword. It is a word that bothers me. Historically it has been used as an excuse for the worst of human behavior.

I don’t want a “pure” Diablo 2 experience, I want the best Diablo 2 experience.

Diablo 2 came out June 29,2000. In that almost 21 year timespan we have had an evolution in game design, UI design, technology, and game players have evolved as well.

Devs please don’t be afraid too add to the Diablo 2 experience. Add QoL and give the option too turn them off if people want the “pure” experience.

Add a charm inventory, add hotbars for quick casting of skills, do balance changes where they may be needed. Add stackable potions and gems. Heck give gems and potions there own inventory as well. Inventory Tetris is not good gameplay, it adds boredom and irritation. Two things that are never good in a game. I’m fine with limited inventory for carrying and different pieces being different sizes, but have an inventory for just gear, one for charms and one for potions and gems.

And let people turn them on or off at game creation. That way the people who want the “pure” experience can have it, and those who want some of the modern day conveniences and QoL that the past 21 years of evolution have given us can have it.

I want the best Diablo 2 experience. Not the “pure” experience.

I agree. Purists can stick too Classic D2 2000.

I want the purists to be able too play there way in D2R. I just want the option to play my way as well.

Everyone might get what they want over time. D2R will bring a lot of nostalgic purists that haven’t played the game since 2003 or earlier and want the game to be what they remember. (Even if it won’t actually be, because the game continued to change significantly for many years, but I digress.) The fact that D2R is going to launch mostly “unmodified” and “what they remember” is part of the marketing draw for a lot of people, and I get it.

My hope is that over time, assuming D2R sells well, and after the initial wave of nostalgia falls off, the “impure” among us who have been playing this game more consistently for the last 20 years might get to see the game pick up where it left off with more new patches. And if not, I’m hopeful for what the team is doing to support modding.

All i have to say is E.F.T Escape from tarkov the biggest shooter game right now ah what you find in it Inventory TETRIS and yes its good gameplay…

D2R will bring a lot of nostalgic purists that haven’t played the game since 2003 or earlier and want the game to be what they remember.

I have a problem with this statement, and I can’t stop thinking about it. I feel that a lot of people who want to keep the game ‘pure’ are the same people that haven’t played the game since 2003.

They haven’t played since 2003 for a reason, and I can assure you that reason is not the graphics. If they wanted to play pure D2, they could just play OG D2.

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to really bring a modern D2 experience to the people, rather than just give a face-lift to the same old game that most people have left behind years ago.

The best diablo 2 experience is NO CHANGE only small QoL changes that already have been anounced and some minor thing like infinite cow level. thx

Charm inventory is the STUPIDIST thing ever.

Its literally entitlement at its core.

Diablo 2 expansion was released with the added benefit of charms to “pad” your character. All at the expense of your inventory space. Now you’re greedy, and want your inventory and full 40 spaces of charms too.

Totally outlandish.

Some people act like a character cannot be competitive without it.
Then you can just stick to only PvP play. Even in HC where you don’t get a second chance I’ve NEVER felt I “NEEDED” a full inventory of charms to be viable.

You must choose the buff or the space. You don’t get both. Sorry

Agree to disagree. The things I want are QoL changes and giving people the option to opt in or out of them at game creation is the best compromise. The only thing I want to keep from D2 are the story, the skill trees, and the loot. Inventory management and skill usage can be drastically improved over the original game.

Then go play a mod. The entire idea of charms is sacrificing your available looting space to give your character an advantage. This makes you responsible for how much padding you will use. and how much space you will sacrifice.

The only “QoL” changes I could see as modifyinf what the game does can be infinite arrows/bolts for a zon, as they have been nerfed so hard anymore.

I’m for hiding certain things if you wish that tend to clutter the screen, but that can be future improvements added.

Honestly, blizz should have given MousePad a job instead and “sold” his program on a monthly basis for a “legal” maphack tailored to what blizzard decides is fair and not.

Well done, but do not expect others to rebuttal your well thought out post with equal quality arguments.
Most argument from purists I see is go play XYZ or get out, or don’t play this game etc. I see a lot of selfish desires to keep the game the way it is instead of making it more accessible to new players.
If D2R team needs more time to make the game better then please spend more time, even if it pushes the release date to 2022. I want what is best for this game. We still have D2 to keep us entertained for the time being after all.

The more and more I think about it, it just might be best to create a expansion that has all these changes that people like. That way purist can play their vanilla HD game and others can play with improvements.

At least for stuff like stacking Runes/Gems, Charm Inventory etc. they could simply give you a checkbox in the menu to activate/deactivate it just like with auto gold pickup, shared stash and new graphics.

No real need for an expansion when it comes to stuff that only affects the player himself.

It’s entirely different though, when it comes to dropchances and game balance.

I think what I said (at least in the part you quoted) matches what you said. That or my brain stopped working which is also possible.

I’m totally on team “make the game as good as possible”, whatever that winds up meaning. So far this team seems careful and thoughtful enough to do it justice. We’ll see what happens after launch.

I’ve tried playing numerous times over the years and the graphics/resolution are just huge turn offs. The game didn’t hold up graphically, sad but true.

That is going to be a neverending conflict until the game comes out.

i wish i can thumbs down this thread

I don’t understand why so many people on here are pushing to make a remaster a completely different game. If I hear one more suggestion for a dedicated charm inventory or personal loot drops my head is going to explode. The whole point of having charms in the inventory is the trade-off between inventory storage space and charms. Relegating them to their own separate inventory completely defeats that and changes the game. Also to the people saying “if you don’t like it, play classic”, honestly get a life. This is a remaster of the existing game, not Diablo 2.5. I’m happy that the devs are sticking to their guns and have said that they want to remain faithful to the game as it is now (minus all the cheats and bots and whatnot), I think that’s a really smart decision and the end product will be that much better for it. D2 has always been a brutal and unforgiving game compared to D3, and that should not change just because a bunch of people don’t like playing D2 and are pushing to turn the game in to something that it’s not. For all of the people who play single player and prefer mods, I’ve no doubt you’ll see something like PlugY coming to this eventually after it releases.

REMINDER: DIABLO 3 PROVED WHY GATEKEEPING IS A GOOD THING

D3 beggars killed the franchise only a decade ago now and are already desperately trying to do it again. NEVER AGAIN

You saved me some time writing something very similar. Well put, sir.
