PSA: Ultrawide whiners

If you quit because of black bars on the sides of your screen what does it say about you as a fan?

I can not think of any “die hard 20 year veteran” who would drop a remaster of a game he loves because of black bars… Nor can I think of one who values COSMETICS OVER FUNCTION… Ridiculous.

You have to understand your whining exposes who you are to any woke individual.

Stop it. You shouldn’t be catered to. The game should not be broken for your comfort. I’m not even going to get into the numbers of people using Ultrawide because thats irrelevant, nor should you get into the numbers of people who play PvP. Broken is broken, end of story.

There should also be a 60 fps cap. Anything higher is too much of an advantage, and not true to Diablo 2.

Its even better. These people basically will get absurd advantages due to their monitor size - and the game can’t really be made to avoid that - even if you tried to readjust the programming you end up with a radically alterered game. It would basically give some people with the monitor scroll hack - invalidate alot of the PVM since they can basically kill things screens away and give them advantages in duels. If they acknowledge this and continue to cry about it its they really don’t care about how this game will function for everyone playing it.

So why is it allowed in D3 and D4?

Completely different games. I won’t address D3 because its just garbage.

In D2 the aggro range for monsters is small. Very small. its fit with the current resolution available. If you increase the screen size - you can see monsters and hit them before they’ll aggro. You can literally gun everything down at range and it won’t come to attack you because of it. The game was designed that way and it would basically be rewriting how the game works in a truly significant way - it wouldn’t be the same game. PVP will just confer advantages on whoever has the widest monitor. If you increase the aggro range in D2 - you’ll have stuff coming to attack you well before you even see in because some of the maps are really close quarter and otherwise will look really ridiculous. There were hacks that literally did the same thing - scroll hack. That’s essentially what people who want the advantage of an extra wide monitor would basically have baked into their game.

TLDR: D4 can develop around this - its not really possible to do it in diablo 2 without major reprogramming how it all works - and any solution may basically turn it into a new game and not a remaster.

I run 2k (2560x1600), so I don’t use ultra-wide. But I cant understand their complaints, because this is supposed to be a remastered game to use modern resolutions, graphics, etc. If I ran ultrawide I would be pissed too.

OP stated that ultrawide would have an advantage… but only in seeing more at once. So OP, are you saying that 4k doesn’t have an advantage over regular HD users?

That is correct. 4k = 16:9. 1920x1080 = 16:9.
Same ratio. Same view extents.

3440x1440 (for example) = 21:9 ratio. You can see further on the sides than 4K 16:9

d2 aggro range is smaller than 1920 x 1080 according to the guy who made it so they obviously are able to change that part and if you played pre 1.10 you know it’s true because you used to be able to hit scroll lock and just move your camera over to shoot mobs that couldn’t see you that were barely off screen. so that has been changed and could be changed more i think the only thing they can be catering to atm is the extremely tiny % of pvpers who also don’t have ultrawides or dual screen and can’t afford something that costs less than 200$ but will spend 40$ on a game.

So then you’re saying 16:9 would have an advantage over my 16:10 2560x1600 resolution?

Seriously, it doesn’t matter.

it would indeed have an advantage

if you are playing on a 3:2* laptop you are also SOL for competitiveness so no using productivity equipment in pvp or pvm

Do a smaller extent, yes.
The different between 16:10 and 16:9 is much smaller than between 21:9 or even 32:9 and 16:9.

And obvious it does matter. Plenty of users were worried about it and Blizzard reacted appropriately because they understood why, even if you don’t.

16:9 is significantly bigger difference from 4:3 which steam suggests is still being used to this day, than 21:9 is from 16:9

Big black bars on an ultrawide display are a huge distraction. If this was about purism we should be sticking to a 4:3 ratio for everyone. It’s meant to be a modern remake for modern resolutions which should include resolutions outside of 16:9.

As for gatekeeping whether someone who finds this a dealbreaker is a ‘true fan’ who are you to decide what detracts from someones enjoyment enough that they don’t find it fun?

Have ultra wide for single player only. And when that doesn’t satisfy you people, you’ll know that you only wanted it for the advantage it gives you over the average player.

Or because you wanted to play online with friends?

I’d be down for ultrawide only on private games.

i have spent the majority of my 21 years of d2 playing, playing in closed bnet either solo or with 1 friend or 2 friends at a time i don’t care for dealing with bots or pickit users and have never considered pvp balanced enough to play, i can easily say i don’t want ultrwide support for an advantage i just want to use the monitor i bought for the cinematic quality it brings to the table. i also watch movies in 21:9 maybe i have an unfair advantage looking for easter eggs and should be stopped.

would actually be super down with this if it has a password you can use it kinda thing

The people responsible for this are the same type of losers who got magic find removed from D3. They have absolutely nothing better to do but sit around and dream up scenarios in which someone might have an edge over them in a mostly single player game.

Imagine Valve capping fps in CS:GO because higher frame rates give a player an advantage. Valve is smart and doesn’t listen to dolts though.

i don’t really care as it doesn’t concern me much.

But somehow, the only way out would be that as soon as someone turn the hostility on , the game would turn ultra/widescreen off.
That , or an in-game creation box to allow or not widescreen in the room.
