Why is there not an option to turn off the profanity filter?? If Activision wants to protect people they would block the entire message from being sent and not just “censor” the word. You can still hurt people and convey a hateful/hurtful message without foul language.
Pick one
Block the message in it’s entirety if you are trying to protect people and keep the game chat PG. The changed characters are protecting no one but purity authoritarian types.
Let users opt out of profanity text filters. The game is rated M so all users who are not breaking the rules are consenting adults.
When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions.
Personally I find the unending flow of spam to be “offensive” and “disruptive.” But we already know that the ToS isn’t any barrier/deterrent to bad behavior anywhere in this game, so… [shrug]
As do I, along with the vast majority of others. I suspect we’ll see some action regarding the spam bots soonTM. I’m sure the large majority of the spam accounts are flagged multiple times, someone just needs to sort through the mountain heap of reports and get it done.
In my case I only play with my real life friends. Just obnoxious that someone will type something and type the “S” version of poop. “That poop was nuts!”
(general statement, not a direct reply to you)
I want the option to turn it off for ME. What is up with people and controlling other people’s experience or trying to protect them when they don’t want the protection? Seems to be a theme in this community.
i don’t think they get a choice on the forum emotes as they are using sets provided by discourse. Blizzard didn’t make these forums they are just using ones made by https://www.discourse.org/
I’m not against profanity filters when they are done right.
I don’t think things related to intimacy should ever be considered as profane (Intimacy is replacing a word I believe is irresponsible to censor)
I think words that are used to belittle or threaten people who are already vulnerable are ok to censor. You won’t use those words in a positive way anyway.
I think we need to look at ourselves as a society and wonder if we’re going too far. Are making perfectly natural things unatural and what impact does that have on the behavioral development of children.
If the censored word is a body part, then it’s probably very dumb to censor it.
If the need to keep things civil is that great, then make examples of people who are overly insulting and ban them for several weeks. That person will most certainly come here to complain and people will learn that there’s a limit to how much a d*** you can be before blizzard punishes you.
Actually Blizzard did something about it in the OG in 2017… But it prevented people from using VPNs and business class connections. (two-week restriction)
Probably the same time or shortly before they went to the drawing board on how to approach D2:R.
