Pre-Order Refund Denied Because Purchase Made "Too Long Ago"

After going through the formal steps to request a refund of D2R, after being unable to even launch the game, I received a response today denying my refund request. The formal reason was the following:

“Unfortunately we will not be able to provide you with a refund because the order was too long ago. We only offer reversals and refunds within a short time after the initial order (usually within the first few days).”

I pre-ordered the game months ago, so of course the initial purchase falls outside of the 72 hour window. What is the point of pre-ordering if I am unable to obtain a refund if I can’t even launch the game. I have zero hours logged and zero characters created. This makes no sense.

Has anyone else who pre-ordered the game months ago been able to obtain a refund? If so, any advice on what I should write in my request?

Never preorder a game before launch it enables companies to do this and get away with it.

I was fairly lucky, i preordered on the 20th installed morning on 23rd. Couldnt open the game from 23-25th then asked for a refund and got it.

I feel terrible knowing that something like Project Diablo 2 or Pluggy can offer a better experience than a billion dollar conpany…

That’s when I realized, they arent a gaming company anymore - they are just a stock on the NASDAQ.

Yes they have. The first step in the refund request is an automated tool that grants the easy requests quickly. Second step is to the use little appeal link at the bottom of the reply you got to have a real GM look at it.

Keep it short and sweet. You pre-purchased D2R on X day, game released on Y day, your game does not even launch so you can’t play it at all. It is now Z days past release and it has not been fixed so you are requesting a refund.

Unfortunately, it looks like I will not be able to receive a refund. Chatted with a GM and learned that I am not eligible because I purchased the Prime Evil collection upgrade (already owned Diablo 3), and played D3, inadvertently accessing the pre-order items.

Oh well, I guess I learned my lesson. Thank you for the help anyways!

Total bulls hit what is wrong with these people

Welp, that sounds like some complete bullsht.

I think you could revisit your request in light of their recent post about not being able to play due to the AVX issue.

This game been live for years now and no one can even play it… Why are people so dumb acting like a rush desperate child? like any other major releases nowadays you will find problems and bugs at launch, eventually they get fixed.

Ask yourself:
Why buy a stupid game if I don’t like it?
I like the game but I want a refund day0 cuz launch technical issues?
Am I an idiot?

A lot of people have friends and family that worked to get time free in their schedules to play the game. You may not have any loved ones that played with you, so maybe your perspective is a little different than the perspectives of others.

If you work 50-70 hours a week and have a family, you already have little time as it is. Then your pals call and say they’re all gathering 'round for launch night. You fight for an open space in your schedule and drop $40 for a night of good fun with the pals.

Then launch night comes and you can’t access the game. Your time off from work is ending and you never got to play the game you paid for. Meanwhile, your friends all got in just fine. They played through Hell and finished the game, but are not having as much fun knowing that you had to sit it out while they got to relive memories together without you.

See why some people might be upset about this? It’s a 21 year old game. Most people were expecting it to just work - especially after the beta seemed so promising for all tests. The performance actually regressed from what it was in the beta. Imagine that.

To not be able to even get to the main menu, that’s a new one for me with a game launch. Never have I bought a game and had it completely fail to open on launch day and remain in that state for going on a week.

A remake is not a major release in spite of how much Blizzard would like us to think it is.

Blizzard’s main products are garbage. Overwatch - done. Shadowlands - done. HotS - lmao, so done. Hearthstone - only whales left pumping money into it.

The only thing Blizzard is having success with is remakes at the moment so they threw this together in less than a year and sold us on it being some amazing return to our old adventures and not just a cheap buggy money grab to keep shareholders happy until they can get out Diablo 4 + WoW’s next expansion failure.

I understand your situation, that is kinda frustrating but also a refund doesn’t help either, just be patient we have family, stupid jobs and barely can play on free time.
even I couldn’t play with some of my old friends @launch not because I had any technical issue, but because of my job schedule and other reasons.
The game isn’t going anywhere, I planned to play with one of them on December because he just can’t right now. Welcome to life

As an old Diablo fan not so hardcore just a regular player who loves this game, I wanted some sort of remaster, an HD version to relive my old game and I’m enjoying this so far.

Original D2 also had issues at launch but the game was soo good that people didn’t care much about it.
D3 launch was even worse than this I remember that.

Charge back charge back charge back

I kinda agree with you, I truly dislike Shadowlands for a me a terrible expansion, following BFA failure the legendary WOW has fallen from grace lol…
To be honest I like Overwatch was a very successful game at the beginning, earned game of the year it was good and felt fresh, but then started to decay for so many reasons I won’t disclose here.
Despite of balance, metas, out of control CC’s and other stuff etc… the main problem in OW is lack of content.
They’ve been working on OW2 for many years instead of expanding the game, and actually looks promising, lets hope they will get rid of CC fest and other core issues.
HotS… Execs abandoned the game.
Hearthstone is cool but I hate pay2win games so bad.
D2R looks good really impressive even with some changes some people hate. @launch been kinda rushed =disaser, lets wait till dev team finds and fix the game. a Shame because nobody asked for rush. I didn’t have problems except some disconnection on day 1

I am not sure if you are replying to my initial post or to other people, but I think you are being a bit extreme in your judgement here. I quickly understood that I was impacted by the AVX issue and primarily wanted to get a refund before my window closed after launch. With many factors unknown at the time, it is still not a sure thing that my computer will be able to run D2R anytime in the near future.

Prior to pre-ordering back in July, I made sure to check the compatibility of my system with the listed minimum requirements. Multiple sites indicated that my 3 year old machine should be compatible with the CPU, GPU, and RAM baselines. I expected there to be launch issues, given Blizz’s track record and the fact that D2 is one of the tent-pole games of my generation (i.e. server issues). What did surprise me was the fact that the game would not even launch.

Personally, I think Blizzard completely missed the fact that the target audience for this game is not at likely to have high-end gaming rigs. That’s just my opinion though, and I am not even angry about it.

What frustrated me was the fact that I could not receive a refund, as I had planned to just buy the console version instead. Now if I go that route, I will have wasted $50+ for a copy that I can’t use (D3 still works like a charm though!).

At this point, I am just going to eat the cost and see what happens in the upcoming month. However even if I buy a new computer this year, there is zero chance that I will pre-order Diablo 4.

Yep. This new-age team at Blizzard has proven they are incapable of doing good work. D4 is DoA to me. I’m never buying anything from this studio again. Hope Activision dissolves them.
