That is not on the so called purists. Blizz never intended to dip their toes to deep into this project. It was all a marketing stunt for D4 and nothing else.
and if purists had put their energy into signalling blizzard that this could be a profitable project instead of aggresively attacking anybody proposing improvements to the game, maybe somebody at blizzard could have pushed it forward

The idea of D2:R being a “remaster” went in one ear of Sekscalibures and out the other. I can only assume there wasn’t much in between his ears to catch and retain the idea. Arguing with him is nothing but senseless abuse to your keyboard.
As far as the OPs suggestion, that’d be fine, but view only. Will it ever happen? Highly doubtful.
This is complete nonsence it was never meant to be anything but a remaster and a few Qol changes besides the game was pretty cheap to begin with and with no monthly subscription it will not be very profitable compared to other games. Its not the purists fault but the simple fact that any further development will be nothing but a money sink. Besides i wouldnt exactly call ur ideas improvements.
If anything u should ask for mod support instead and let this old classic stay the way it is. Some people actually like it for what it is and doesnt want it to be just another mainstream product like D3/D4.
I like playing other mods like PD2 and i do play PoE and LE too but i always seem to find my way back to this old gem because its different than those games and has a feel and atmosphere that no other game has been able to provide.
