So I am interested in seeing some non-attacking opinions about the right level of difficulty in this game. Basically question is :
What should be the reachable power level for classes?
Should they even be able to effectively farm p8? How expensive should be gear for it?
I saw so much hate in threads about nerfing things. I agree with many of them, so it is hard to me to understand objections. I think S tier builds are too easy to play.
You can say that “I do not have to play it” or “Why do you want to take away fun from other people”.
Well I can not see how is it taking away fun from anyone. It is good to have the game challenging in some way.
I do not play these characters as I get bored with them easily.
However I can list some of the problems I have with this:
- If you try racing in ladder you absolutely will have to pick one of the best builds.
- You can not force your team not to play S tier builds, so you end up running next to a javazon wiping out whole screen in a second not able to hit any monster.(no fun)
- No point of playing together in the same location. It is always split MF (joing same game to increase diffuculty, but in reality playing solo)
So how should it be?
Diablo 2 LoD has been about overpowered builds for the most time. I think it is ok that you can clear p8 with endgame gear.
I could also see a version of the game where only groups can clear p8 and every build is balanced around p1, but it would be a completely different game and would need a lot more changes to keep people playing.
For example → all balanced for p1, loot is no longer public and mobs live longer so you can’t just 1-shot them. It would for sure be a nice game, but it wouldn’t be D2, you wouldn’t just log in and do 10 runs in 10-15 minutes and log off. You would have to have longer sessions to have fun and progress.
Now you can just hopp in, do 10 baalruns and call it a day… that’s not even half an hour playtime and you would still have a little progress and the feeling that you achieved something.
That’s the problem of MMORPGs… You can’t do anything in 10-30 min. But they are balanced for grouping or solo content. You usually can’t solo any of the group dungeons on your lvl.
Are MMOs nice games? sure, but they are very different.
Flame suit fully zipped up…
BOTs and humans - that provide/feed items to RMT sites need/rely/depend these builds.
Rondel is replying, and I look forward to reading such
Personally I think standard builds with ‘low level’ gear should be balanced around P1. This is actually about right for where the game is. I can take a character with lore, spirit, Rhyme and Stealth through the game and farm P1. As you get better gear you should be able to farm up to P4-ish but I would like p5-8 to be reserved for actual group play.
As the game currently is a few builds can do P8, thus we have a dilemma. We can’t really nerf those builds so what do we do, make an OP build for every class? Make every build able to do P8 with the most expensive gear?
P8 gear should be ridiculously expensive. This is true for the players not on jsp and who don’t have 8-10 hours a day to play. You can still finish the game and reach lvl 99 but you can’t really farm P8 unless you make that commitment.
So I seem to have talked my way into saying the game is kind of balanced…if there weren’t bots and dupers making the expensive stuff relatively cheap.
Most builds should be able to handle p1 to some degree with yellows/blues and once with end game gear they should be able to handle p8. For a solo player you should be rewarded for finding all that gear but people are way too concerned about all the d2jspers that get end game gear right away which makes the game “too easy” so hence blizz should nerf everything. Gtfo…
Power level I don’t care about tbh. If the game was harder perhaps the bots would stuggle more. If a hammerdin breezes through P8 or a hammerdin struggles through P8 it doesn’t matter. What matters is that a hammerdin does P8 content 10x faster than meme druid builds do.
Should people be able to farm effectively on P8? Yes. As long as the no-drop chance and XP mechanics are like they are then I think people should be able to effectively farm P8. Maybe it should be slower than it currently is, but there is no issue with people doing P8 content.
On the concept of gear and P8. Sunders should be removed. TZ should probably be removed as well. Your basic gear should get your farming some weak monsters on lower level settings think andy, meph, shenk, eldrich etc. Getting up there in gear now you can kill much stronger monsters. If you want to be universal, every class should have a universal runeword that helps remove immunities. And if you want to be efficient universally you should have to invest in gear that lowers monsters ability to negate your damage. So, P8 in an area where your class specalizes in might only need B or A gear, but being able to murder the entire map should take S gear.
If you try racing in ladder the build doesn’t dictate the winner. The person who is willing to go for it and sleep the least is the winner. A nova sorc won SC just now and IMO there are plenty of viable builds that work better than nova, that didn’t win. A barb with much bigger issues to face than a nova sorc took like 8th place I think? There is room for all builds to win, and the win isn’t an impressive ability. Literally just a note of who can grind the most hours in the fewest amount of days more than a skills issue.
If you choose not to play S tier builds you can still run P8? Nobody stops you. You’ll never beat someone farming in your area, but there are plenty of areas on the map. If that group doesn’t work well for you, then you should find a new group. Racing people in TZ is a waste of effort.
There is a point of playing together in the same location, a couple people might clear cows and they would receive a better no drop chance than one player doing it solo.
Your question is limited in scope but has too many factors outside that affect it. But I did my best
Gtfo…
Explain the shortcut you used at the end
Because I do not get it.
ekhm… Topic is a question about opinions ekhm…
A fun way is to play with limited gear. Have you tried a high lvl cleglaw zealot?
