Hey fellow People,
so i kinda have an semi old pc i was wonderring what you would think if you could play D2R in complete old graphic maybe that you dont have like a short freeze everytime you load into the game. The Game itself runs pretty good for me but in the loading screen i get like a 1-2 sec freeze where my music stops play discord gives me a ghost dc due to lack of resources and stuff.
Sometimes even my 2nd GPU crashes completly.
So i would really like to have the option to play it completly in old graphics even for the nostalgic feeling for my part i mostly bought this game to get rid of bots and a new and returning playerbase not because of the new fancy graphics.
Maybe some speedrunners would also be interessted in it with decreased loading times etc.
What is your opinion about that?
They clearly didn’t expect they’d have so much trouble running an old game on their servers. I feel for the devs trying to find a solution and probably getting yelled at to make it quick.
Seems a lot like your problem is similar to what they have to deal with… old meets new.
I see no reason why there shouldn’t be a command available in the .exe/shortcut to enable -startinlegacy
But im sure they don’t want to go through the trouble of recreating the splash screen and char select
it looks as if the “old game” still plays in a 3d environment. As in the 2d game is projected onto a flat plane in 3d space with a camera pointed at it. ( allowing for zooming in legacy )
not sure if it would even save any system recourses. (other then things being displayed or culled out)
RIP double wield GPUs
so dunno seems like the problem just appears when im using 2 gpus. i deactivated one and everyone worked fine. ill send them a report seems like a bug to me
Hasn’t there not been a new driver with SLI support for around a year now? Driver issues could be part of the problem.
I did complete the game several times on HC from normal to hell - all on SSF.
I have GeForce 750 and 8k Ram while everything in game is on lowest possible.
Freezes are there , but not that threatening while Disconnects mostly happen while i enter zones trough waypoints.
Just don’t use anything while ingame , no discord and no internet , no other stuff and try it that way.
So a few days before D2R was released I decided to do a refresher run on classic LOD D2 and I gotta say, I don’t know what they did wrong with legacy mode, but it looks and runs MUCH worse than the original Diablo 2 does. Download the original game and see for yourself.
runs and looks like 1.14.0 the original.
LOD is the update that included act 6
i played LOD right before the launch of D2R it run with like 300-400fps on Act4 ^^
SLI/Multi GPU support is sorely lacking in most games…

I would think they included a minimum specification for a reason.
Yes, I understand there’s a chip shortage, and that GPUs are hard to obtain at present unless you’re independently wealthy. But that doesn’t change the fact the game was designed to have a minimum graphic spec because it was coded for current-gen tech and not 20 year old tech.
Also, the reason the game doesn’t “look the same” in Legacy mode is that it’s not going to translate exactly with the newer engine, and there were also improvements/modifications that were made to the new one. (added tabs, inventory spaces, UI elements changed, etc.)
No. It looks like legacy, but it doesn’t run like it.
well im talking about a 5year old mid pc not a 20 year old pc. as i said the problem is mostly because of SLI/Crossfire which is as far i know commonly used these days. seems like this game isnt especially coded for this gen^^ i am a bit above the minimum requirement even used an ssd instead of an hdd but its not only that even friends with somewhat decent pc have sometimes a hard time.
The Game overall seems not to be well polished for blizzard standarts.
Well… I know hundreds yes, hundreds of gamers.
And not one of them use SLI or Crossfire. Now, about 5-10 years ago, that was a thing. These days it’s single GPUs but they’re powerful.
As far as the game not being “polished”, don’t say that until you’ve played it on current gen hardware. It might not be “optimized for old hardware”, but it was never intended to be. They remastered this game to take advantage of the latest tech, even though it’s a “skin” slapped on top of 20 year old game mechanics, it’s still a newer game.
“…even friends with somewhat decent pc have sometimes a hard time.”
im not even arguing that they coded it for a newer gen but definitly not the newest thats not how they make money they need to hit the avg. pc not the high end pcs.
btw:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or better.
- RAM: 16 GB.
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
- VIDEO CARD: 6GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT.
- PIXEL SHADER: 5.1.
- VERTEX SHADER: 5.1.
- FREE DISK SPACE: 30 GB.
- DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 6 GB.
recommend seems like a mid pc from for 5 years just saying ^^
Oh, I’m not arguing with you, either. I’m just saying the game is perfectly playable on “mid range” hardware… but if you want best experience, you’ll want to step up your game.
Hell, even I’m not running “top tier”, I’m running Ryzen 5000X, NVIDIA 2070 Super and 32 GB of RAM with an Intel 660p SSD. (and I run with max graphics, etc.)
Is it possible to run the game on a potato? Sure it is. Is it likely to run “well” on one? Probably not.
