Posting here because Class forums are largely dead. I thought it would be fun to post FoH pally build/gear variants here just to see what people are doing with it and for fun and ideas

My FoH Pally is…I would give his name but it might get me banned from the forums lol

Stats are Level 88, 118Str, 199Dex, 348Vit, 55Energy, 75%Block with Holy Shield, 75%AllResist in Hell, 6600Def, 1375Life, 1109Mana, 89%FHR, 85%FCR (75%BP), and 3000FoH damage

Skills are 18 (25) into Conviction, 20 (27) into Holy Shock, 1 (8) into Vigor/Redemption, 20 (30) into FoH, 20 (30) into Holy Bolt, and 5+ (14+) into Holy Shield, along with all Pre-requisites having 1 point.

Gear is where I think I made a fun, effective, budget version of the character, I imagine most of you will be using Enigma but I don’t use Enigma on really any of my characters (I will eventually, but I prefer not to for now). Besides, having tons of Mana and Charging around forever is perfectly fast enough for me.

Weapon: Wizardspike (mine doesn’t have a socket but if it did I’d put a Lightning Facet into it probably)
Armor: Spirit Shroud Dusk Shroud socketed with a +8Str/+9Energy/+15Fire Resist rare jewel
Shield: Spirit Akaran Targe with 35 FCR and 41all resist base (not the best option of shield base at all but it’s what I had, luckily got 35FCR roll first try)
Helm: Peasant Crown Shako socketed with +6Dex/+4Life/+1RepLife/+20LightRes rare jewel
Gloves: Frostburn War Gauntlets for big mana boost
Boots: Silkweave Boneweave Boots for good FRW and mana benefits
Belt: Rare belt with +24FHR/+29Str/+20LightRes/+11PoisonRes (this belt is main reason why I decided to upgrade my gear for the decent armor boost)
Amulet: Magic +3 PCombat Skills/+18Dex
Ring 1: Rare +12Life/+90Mana/+10MF
Ring 2: Rare +1Str/+81Mana/+30FireRes/+2DR/+2MDR

Charms I have a low PTorch, +33MF Gheeds, +37Life/+31Mana GC, +7FRW/+47Mana GC, +4Str/+14PoisonRes LC, +21Def/+30Life LC, +2Dex/+8PoisonRes SC, +2Dex/+13Mana SC, +14Life/+13Mana SC, +20Life SC, and +5FHR SCx2.

My Merc is a Holy Freeze Merc using Eth Bonehew (2xAmn), random Treachery, and a GFace.

The area I farm with this character is River of Flame and Chaos Sanctuary, and sometimes WSK/Baal.

I created this character many months ago, and largely forgot about playing him. In fact, I turned him into a Hammerdin for a while just because, you know, FoH in PvM sucked. But he was always meant to be a PvM FoH pally, and now he can finally fulfill that purpose! And wow, as I’m sure you have all found as well, what an OP build now!

And now if you would like, please share yours. Not even death can save you from FoH, Diablo…

Fine, I suppose my main paladin is considered a FOH paladin by the community. He is what I call a sorcerden, but works on a similar principal.

Strenght 135, dex 140, vitality (everything else). Skills 1 in each slot of combat skills. 20 holy shield, 20 holy bolt, 20 FOH. 1 in all prerequesites for Conviction, 16 in conviction. In defensive aura 1 in prayer, clensing, meditation, defiance, vigor. Rest into prayer for holy bolt healing.

Gear:
Helm: Night Wings UM rune
Armor: Trangouls Ral Rune
Sheild: Exile in a 42 all resist base
Weapon: Rift in a 4 socketed war scepter
Swap: Spirit Crown Shield, Hexfire Shamshear
Glove: Trangouls Claws
Belt: Trangouls belt
Boots: Aldur’s advance
Rings: + life + mana, resist, 10% fCR
Amulet: Seraphys Hymn

Merc: Act 3 lighting
Sword: Lawbringer Broad Sword
Helm: Face of Horror Mask
Armor: Etheral leviathon plate with hel rune
Shield: Ethereal Medusa’s gaze

So, fist of the heavens and holy bolt are two of my primary damage sources after the 2.4 patch. However, I use level 1 smite to proc a level 21 frozen orb and level 18 tornado from the rift scepter. Likewise, exile will proc level 5 life tap so I can heal myself. Additoinally, exile provides me with a level 15 defiance aura, stacked with level 28 hold sheild I have about 18k defs and a 65% block chance making me hard to tackle in melee. Trangs armor and aldur’s boots give a combined 80% faster run walk so I can get around and I have charge if I need to cover longer distances.

Trangouls belts provides 66 life, 50 mana, cold resist and cannot be frozen. The 3 pieces of trang’s set offer level 13 fire wall, which get’s boosted to 18 from nightwings, seraphs hymn and the annalis charm. This gives me a ranged fire attack that does pretty consistent damage when stacked with level 25 conviction. I can also swap weapons to bring this up to level 23 fire wall if I need it to be. Nightwings also boosts my cold damage by 14% along with conviction to make the proced frozen orb more lethal.

The merc has medusa’s gaze that will proc level 7 lower resist on top of the conviction Aura if he get’s hit a few times. Likewise, the sanctuary aura from his lawbringer sword completely removes all physical resistance from undead enemies making them easy to smite for life with lifetap. Additoinally, since conviction breaks lightning immunity, the merc casts static field roughly every 15 to 25 seconds which whittles down the health pools of most opponents and his lighting gives me another damage type that I can only single target with fist of the heavens.

Last we have clensing if I need to get rid of a curse or poison damage. Meditation to top up my or the party’s mana as needed and vigor if I want to cover some distance without having to lose my defense to running. All of these get +4 from serpahs hymn. Overall this setup isn’t the most powerful of all time. But, there is something to be said for having this wide of a variety of damage. I can handle any situation and fit well with any party.

I am no paladin expert, nor I play paladin much. But I like to theorycraft. And since Holy bolts damage all Chaos sanctuary monsters…

…how will 20 FoH, 20 HBolt, 20 Conviction, 20 Salvation, 20 Resist Light with dual-Dream setup work? Maximizing AoE both with FoH + Holy shock pulses.

Hybrid between Cold Offensive and FOH

I deliberaty teied to shoot less FoH on the video to showcase the damage of the aura

I’m curious to see what everyone’s ideas with this are. I don’t think Conviction is the way to go since lightning damage is so small. The main damage dealer is holy bolt in FoH. It seems to me the aura you should use is situational. Like maybe fire res for trav, or prayer to heal up, etc.

I went the conviction route but find I often just leave the second key on tele since it is so much easier to keep my merc alive.

I’m using HOTO, a rare circlet, 2 paladin skills, 10FCR, 53 life, 86 mana with a topaz, a crafted ammy, 2 paladin skills 10FCR, 14 mana, 19 all res, 33 life, Akaran Targe 35FCR spirit 44 Res base, Trangs, rare ring, 10FCR 30 life, 9MF ring, 14 MF Tals belt, 28 Nagelring, rare boots with 20FRW, 23 fire res and 20MF. Torch, Anni, Gheeds, and an assortment of 20 life SC, 11 res SC and MF SC.

On switch I have a +3 to meditation scepter and a spirit.

Ideally I would like to find a caduceus with 5OS, +3 redemption to make beast in for my switch, improve my charms and get a better base for my spirit. Better boots of course, had bad luck with that, maybe I should gamble some. Still with ladder only a week away, I will likely park him once it starts.

I really enjoy the play and conviction is really killer if you can play with a javazon or lite sorc. Chaos jut becomes a light show. I will make a FOH pally as my first ladder character, start with holy fire and go as far in NM as I can before changing to FOH. Hammerdin is still better at pretty much everything but I’m done with that for a while.

Can’t wait for ladder. I will be excited to find things I wouldn’t even pick up now.

i heard redemption on other forums but yea convict is not the best however since fcr doesnst apply to foh i was wondering if ias does then ill max fanct

Thing about redemption is it’s a 1 point wonder and all you have to do is swap to it for a split second for it to fill you up. Otherwise it’s pretty useless. More of an after battle top up aura imo, I think conviction is still best, not just for group play but people also forget it reduces targets defense which makes your merc hit every time basically.

Yeah looks like dbrunksi is recommending redemption. Makes a lot of sense actually. But you might not need more than one point in it really. I’m thinking the best way to go is make the FoH also a smiter, or improve hammers. I think having a point in redemption is the way to go, but conviction should get some point love for group play.

2 years later, to comment the most basic build.

Was looking for foh hydra pvp build

I really like to play Foh trigger

With cadeuce upgraded hand of the blessed light
I get 10% chance to cast lvl 20 foh on striking

With the +2 pal , 2 foh, 4 holy bolt it make good synergies for the trigger

Use it with sacrifice since it’s also a magic skill
I like to pair it with conversion to get lots of Zakarumite

The interesting thing is how I’ve evolved it to use hammers. I previously did 20 FOH, 20 holy bolt, 20 hammers, 1 holy shield, 20 vigor, 1 concentration, rest into blessed aim.

Mercenary used to use insight, cure, and whatever armor.

My recent change has been in my aura I use on myself and what the mercenary is geared with. I’ve recently switched up and put a Pride on him, which yielded a higher concentration aura, and let me use redemption. I no longer need the insight, as redemption heals my mana, but also my life in excellent chunks.

1 Redemption (main aura)
14 Blessed Aim (remaining points here)

for me the most versatile (and somewhat cheap) pally build was the Smiter/FoH hybrid

Max Fist + Holy bolt for best aoe possible
Max Shield + Fanaticism + rest in Smite for killing stuff that’s hard to kill with Fist or Bolts like ubers and beast monsters
1 point in Redemption & pre-reqs

Heaven’s Light w/ Shael & ist
Chains of honor (i never use Enigma out of principle, but you can use it if you want, or use ViperSkin until you have one)
Spirit In Sacred Targe
Shako w/ P Topaz (or a good pally circlet)
Trang gloves
Goldwrap
Marrowwalks (i think it’s the most versatile option for this build as it gives good stats & Life Tap charges)
Soj+raven
2 paladin skill amulet with good mods (you don’t need the %cast rate for this build) or Mara
anni+torch+gheed

you get 6 frames Smite, 17 frames Fist , ~190 MF and you can farm anywhere in the game (except cows)
