Possible Maphack

was just in a series of Baal runs on NM. I am not certain that there is a version out there. But 8 games in a row, had a sorc go from lvl2 to throne in under 5 seconds every time. When I called him out he mysteriously stopped running. Where do I go to report the actual person?

Possible they just know the map layouts because they’re an experienced player and also got a bit lucky? You are acting like it’s out of the realm of realistic possibility that a NM Baal run sorc would have fast casting teleport and some knowledge of how the maps are…

2-3 is easy, throne is random.
A good sorc can do it pretty fast, but if its TOO fast, suspect it…

It’s easy to recognize map generation layouts after you’ve ran them thousands of times. The smaller the map the easier it is too, so it’s not entirely out of the question. It could also be luck to a degree, sometimes you teleport right where you need to.

I mean, if you watch any GOOD streamer, you can get to Baal in under 20s from lvl 2 waypoint. I’ve done it while streaming, same with Mephisto, Andariel, Nihlathak.

After you run the game 50,000 times, you start to learn the patterns. Maphack is useless except for lazy people and lower kurast.

Lvl 2 - turn your starting tile clockwise, now you know how the exit tile looks like (and by this the side of the map it attaches to)
Lvl 3 - turn your starting tile counter-clockwise. rest is the same as above.

Maybe you have to flip both, i didnt do too many baal runs yet.

Anyways, it is very easy to find the correct exit without maphack. And on most maps it actually is. (cata-2, cata-3 (?), tower, durance, …)
People who use maphack go the direct way, i would assume. If you see that pattern, then you might have an indication.

I do it based on which way my character is facing when they get into the map for stairs and which way the tile is facing / your characters orientation when walking towards the rest of the map (leads towards the rest of the map) for waypoints. Worldstone Keep 2 waypoint, u go right, when u get down the stairs, you go left. Remember it’s based on character’s orientation, not yours.

I do quick baals in hell and if you hit a good teleport speed it isn’t difficult to get to the throne fast.

“Maphack in your mind”
MrLlama and Dbrunski both cover methods of learning the map layouts that usually start with the tile your exiting from the WP.

That and with the “Extended” vision we are granted now, sometimes you can see over the wall of WSK 2 and see the door to 3, but you said it was multiple games so I doubt that was the case for every game.

Wait so let me get this straight.

Someone was doing you a favor by carrying you through Baal runs and going through Worldstone Keep/Throne for you.

You insult him by calling him a hacker and try to report him. And then you’re surprised he stopped hosting games for you?

Last I knew, Mousepad is MIA, and the dark web I know about currently has no maphack. :man_shrugging:

It is true that reporting them helps to lessen their numbers and may lead to their account(s) being disabled. What you and I need to prepare for is that map reveal apps/hacks are becoming prevalent in D2:R. In D2:R hardcore norm runs, I witnessed several games where a tele’ing sorc made reasonably precise teles to quickly make it to the throne. Even with the common schemes of getting there, these direct teleings appear to be done with the help of map reveal.

Just prepare yourself for a legacy type gaming experience with D2:R, e.g., map reveals, ad bots, regular bots, and other exploits. Sigh.

People are spending real money on D2JSP, so the incentive is there to pull D2:R further down into the gutter than what Blizzard has already done with its releasing a malfunctioning game on wonky servers.

This guys gets it…this is how we show thanks to the people that host exp runs, tie them to a stake and burn them as a heretic.

It is fascinating watching the community evolve and learn these things. This post could have been mine a week ago but I understand now… What is this game going to be like in a week I wonder.

Who cares, they were saving you time like geez.

Also its easy to work out the maps. I can do Meph runs in under 30 seconds.

With no maphack. But Maphacks are awesome they help save time which is great.

I was in a full game questing through NM as a sorc just last night with a game name of something like “act 1-5 nm rush”. Didn’t have the waypoints, and I just felt like playing through the game anyway. Got yelled at by some pally for teleporting ahead in act 3 spider forest and promptly left without a word. Like… f*** it, it’s not as if it’s completely safe for an untwinked sorc like mine to tele spam and I’m doing it because you idiots wanted a rush, and I get yelled at for doing what you wanted? If he’d asked me not to teleport and just quest with them, it’d have been weird in a game with that name but I’d have been totally fine with it anyway (more exp for me). I hope that jackass had fun with the dolls and flayers.

To be fair, most folks have been swell to play with and a handful have also asked about how to read the act 2 and 3 maps. I just point them to llama’s videos, but you kinda develop an intuition for these things if you’ve played thousands of games. I guess a maphack would still be more convenient, but I rarely find myself thinking that I need one these days.

M8. This is no real concern. With some experience and a good sorc this is really nothing of a miracle. Tough with nm gear, agreed, but very very doable. I recommend you to ask the player.

that’s average for a sorc who has the gear to break through the 200% faster cast rate breakpoint with teleport. that gets you down to 7 frames per teleport, or about 5 teleports per second. it requires near best in slot gear for every slot plus charms and faster cast rate rings, but it’s not a hack.

even with only 115% faster cast rate, i average about 10 seconds from the waypoint in harrogath to baal’s throne.

you don’t need a maphack when you can traverse the entire grid zone of the map level in under 5 seconds. if you understand how the map tiles are laid out, you can speed up your average “waypoint to throne room” teleport time by a huge margin.

the trickiest bit is from the waypoint at worldstone keep level 2. that map is a pain because you don’t start from a traditional stair type entrance, but a more open waypoint tile, and there’s two stairs on the map. one going back up to worldstone keep level 1, and one going down to level 3. once you get to level 3, you can tell the orientation your destination by the way you are facing when you first pop out of the stairway.

it’s not a maphack, it’s just people who have been doing baal run teleporting for 20 years. it’s like an instinct by now.

From the WP of the WSK2… go right… that’s about it 95% of the time.
