It will be anyong for non botting players but can be effective. Once every 15min there should be a widow popup in game with captcha (that cant be solved by bots, i.e. arranging a object from 5 elements). For human this takes 5-10 seconds. During this time your charcter is immortal and deals no damage or any other effects, but can move to dodge all the agro i.e. if you play HC and dont want to die once going back to normal mode after captcha (one have infinite time to solve the captcha). There can be a non invasive remainder 10 second before captcha apperas.
If bot fails the captcha than his acc gets blocked for next 14min. Upon reloging he need to solve another captcha (and can be blocked for next 14min). Worst case scenario: real people who failed captcha will have a bit of breake in a binge gaming sesions.
This would make things a lot harder for botters. If someone is running few bot instances on a server-pc and does other thing while bots are running he wont be able to keep up.
Also there should be some detection of MAC addres. And only one game account should be allowed for one MAC addres at given moment. I know this can be bypassed but its one more step for begginer botters.

And then beeing immortal for that time. Not that it’s just a very bad idea, it would bring in exploits for sure.
So, an annoying captcha every 15 minutes…. That might work… Drive off the human players with captcha annoyance, the botters won’t have anyone wanting their items anymore.
I guess that’s one way to do it.
Captcha is solvable with automation by the way. And the ones that aren’t are usually difficult to impossible to solve by humans.
If we want to grind the game while beeing forced to solve a capture every 15 minute defo is effort und annoying.
Nobody would consider to play online anymore.
I dont get how 5 seconds extra in 15min is a deal breaker. MMORPGs did that a lot back in the day. Dont think than more than 5% would quit over this tbh. A lot of players in this game are obsessed and have 0 patience.
I would like to see the market without bots. Items having real value. No cheating with Forum Gold. Real barter economy.
if you did it, say, when starting a new game and every time you use a TP/WP into town (after at least 15 mins since last time doing a captcha) it would be far less intrusive into your gaming experience.
