So I was helping some peeps do a nightmare rush on my lvl 96 necromancer, and pker came in.
Im not a pvp guy, but it’s softcore and I thought what the heck lol, so im porting all over the place, I got him with lower resist and 3 or 4 poison novas… and I got a wee bit too close and was ONE SHOTTED by a blizzard. What on earth lol.
I even had BO up. Roughy 2500hp. 75 cold res, overstacked cause nightmare difficulty.
Now here is what left me surprised. These are massive 10k damage poison novas I got him with— total screen melters, with a deaths web and lower resist… as I met my demise……he still had like 75-80% hp
And im just wondering what on earth, is this just the worst PVP build ever? My guy is maxed out.
Perhaps he was portioning, although potions are a no-no in PVP as I understand it.
What happened here? And how can I make my necromancer suck less against players
-255% is about the max a cold sorc can have(lvl 45 Cold Mastery)
Blizzard at lvl 45 do approx 15k dmg…15k divide by 6(pvp penatly) equate 2500 dmg(if your resists = 0)…at -80% you’d take 4500 dmg)
EDIT: lower resists = do nothing in pvp if his poison resists were 125% above 75%)
since its Nightmare difficulty he had a huge resist advantage to your poison…basicly NM difficulty provided him 70% more tankyness vs your poison…at most death web was setting him down to 25% poison resists after Lower Resists(assuming he wasn’t overcapped in Hell)
EDIT 2: if you want to laugh at a cold sorc…make a Crystal Sword fill of 6 30% Cold Resists Jewels*…Equip 2 Ravenfrost…and laugh as they do no dmg now
Was he using antidotes? Pnova is indeed a pretty strong PvP build in general but you underestimated his cold pierce. Don’t forget about +50 res from thawing pots too.
Wow…Cold mastery is insane, especially in nightmare where nobody else can really get past the overstack. Perhaps Hell difficulty would even the playing ground a bit more.
(My cold res is 75 in hell….232 total if anyone wanted to know)
Yeah antidotes would be instant game over for me too. Actually it seems unless it’s a legit duel with rules, poison nova would suffer due to being damage over time. None of the damage is instant, so you have plenty of time to react with potions.
Good to know that this class can actually work in PvP under the right circumstances though.
Another Question: I was using an Xbox controller, how does the duelling community feel about controllers?
the fighting game community stick elitists used to meme on pad boys, but then pad boys started dominating Evo. let your game do the talking. i’ll say that tools do matter, you dont want to be limited, but i’ll take a mechanically perfect pad player over a great keyboard/stick player any day.
Think there may be some confusion there…both of you technically benefitted from playing in nightmare but obviously he has a much larger amount of pierce. If you played in hell, maybe you might be able to do some more damage but if he was 1 or 2 shotting you before, then he will definitely 1 shot you in hell.
Aa far as K&M vs controller, I much prefer controller for PvM but there is no substitute for K&M in dueling, controller doesn’t allow for complete precision on things like teleport and with auto locking, it is more detrimental than beneficial in PvP as there are plenty of times you are trying to cast in a certain spot near but not directly at the enemy…
This is super interesting. I have over 1000 hours in this game, and this is whole section of it that feels totally new.
All because I got PKed haha
LOL, the more information I give, the worse it gets for me
Awesome. I’m TERRIBLE with KB/M, so it’s nice to know I could still dabble in some duels without having to learn a whole new control scheme.
When I play, it’s usually on steam deck In handheld mode.
So a blizzard sorc is something you’d want to specifically stack for I’m guessing. Absorbs etc. seems like a solid pvp opponent actually.
I ran some numbers out of curiosity:
If my opponent had exactly 75 poison res in hell difficulty…
-67 from lower resist and -50 from DWeb would set them at -42 poison res
10k/6=1,666
1,666x1.42=2,365 damage…
Does that sound correct? One or two novas should take out an average end game player as long as they aren’t stacked sky high with poison res?
Are you saying that pvp feels totally new? If so, this is exciting watching you learn about it. So many people will give PVP a bad time just because they’ve “heard things” about it, but won’t even try. GM duels are literally the best thing you can experience in this game. Especially if you have a friend. There are people that put a bad name on PVP because they are PK’ing people in pubs… being lamers, creating a toxic environment. But the itemization, and strategies takes this game DEEP into another level. More people honestly just need to try pvp when they are bored of MF’ing instead of logging out. Trust me!
Anyways, I hope you jump in and try sometimes and keep getting better, the more the merrier! <3
maths are correct…as long they aren’t overstack of poison resists you be doing some dmg to them in hell…but if they are then rip your dps…they could also hard bad manner you using antidotes for bonus +50% poison resists
Antidote provide 50% resists for 1 min(each antidote used stack up infinetly)
so if he drank 100 antidote potions for says he gonna have boosted poison resists for 100 mins
75% poison resists isn’t too hard to get in hell either…i have it without Sandstormtreks or even 5% all Resists Small charms…so basicly vs an overstacked player negative do nothing…in such case its best to run +6 Poison Nova wand with 20% fcr + 2 PSN Facet
20% weap
20% Amulet
20% Arach
20% Trang Gloves
35% Shield…Darkforce Spawn would net you +1 pnb point over spirit and enough fcr…but…rip FHR//some life/some mana and some resists…so not sure if its worth it
20% fcr 2 pnb Circlet
125% Breakpoint reached
EDIT: then again you can’t use said wand vs a Blizz sorc since have to hard stack cold resists(so no 125% fcr BP vs blizz)
For a pure PvP char you have the space, it ain’t much…plus how many other builds are you trying to swap out gear for? Blizz is just one of maybe three matchups to have swaps for…
Yeah, that was my first time attacking another player haha. The duelling community seems super chill. At least the people who showed up here to chime in.
What are the others?
Cold mastery seems
A bit extreme… -255… and you don’t even have to cast it.
Lower resist is only -67 and you have to waste like 27 mana and time to cast
How many other characters are in the moor when its you vs the blizz sorc? How crappy is your build vs other specs vs having to stack 1 type of resist for 1 specific character. D2 dueling is a joke. It has taken me about 15 years to finally realize it. But it isn’t fair dueling. There is always some class that can multi account/sorb/out range/sustain/dodge/block/meat shield/always hit, to negate your entire character. D2 dueling is for elitist, botting ,fg using to get the best gear, use the most broken mechanics, to win. D2 just isn’t a fun game anymore. 15 years to realize the pvp in this game is complete trash. The FHR mechanics, the damage increase on some characters, the dodge mechanics being fixed, the attack rating mechanics being garbage for melee (sec let me have a 2-5% chance to hit you with my attack).
It isn’t a fair duel, someone is always going to troll you/nk you/be better than you. Nobody is winning anything, there is no achievement, no reward, nothing to be gained from pvp. The only pvp that is worth a damn, which is also a joke is hardcore. Where only the simplest of minds play to claim their d2 glory is something to be praised. Where killing randoms (even while being a random) is something to be proud of.
Smh, clearly sounds like all you did was pubpk which does have its own enjoyment merits…but chill dude, none of this is serious, d2 has always been very much like an arpg sandbox to me, and dueling has always been just a silly thing to enjoy.
I had so much fun over the years being part of many GM dueling leagues (which btw occur in NM if you weren’t aware to lesson pierce from blizz/foh). Whether solo or team pk, there so many active leagues with FG/item payouts… Zeal v Zeal & BvB were awesome too, the rare only leagues had some of the coolest items in the game, most notably a couple over 600 damage Cryptic Swords were on US West…
Either way dude no one is claiming d2 PvP is this perfect system where pro gamers around the world and compete for millions of dollars on the line. But it is fun and unique, there aren’t many games that feature PvP action like d2 and I like that it has been up to the playerbase to enact rules…or you can just wreck people in pubs, another feature not many games have unless you’re playing as a space pirate in some space game…
For most of my PvP chars, I generally had swaps for DR%, high block and cold stack. Maybe some light stack back when FoH/Mages were abundant…
