pick a cheap build like a blizzard sorc with two spirits, stealth, and in insight merc. you can clear the entire game easily and get some runes or drops to trade for them

I used to have a frozen orb/hydra sorc build which worked great until I got to hell 
Well hydra really isn’t really solid these days. I would look up end game specs. Personally I use pure blizz because I can clear the whole game and didn’t have to use any of my respecs. Just make sure you hit a decent level, around 85 imo.
It still works in hell, just need to make sure your merc has good resists/ gear. Doesn’t have to be great… just good and life steal.
Make a sorceress. My first char was a orb/fireball sorc and i can solo Hell and mf easily… I wasn’t rushed and solo’d the whole game (i wanted my first kill loot from all hell bosses and got it).
All i had when i finished hell was spirit sword and shield, que-hegan armor, rare boots with mf, chance gloves, sazabi helm(yes), a set belt qith +15 all res (don’t remember the name), 1 nagelring and 1 rare ring with mf , a rare +2 cold skills crappy amulet i gambled.
I also had “emergency” resist gear for really hard parts, like a +18 all ress amulet and 2 +xx all res rings…
And used a cold act 2 merc wearing leviathans armor, 1 insight pole weapon and 7/7 eth vamp gaze (lucky drop).
I could kill everything that wasn’t fire+cold immune and my merc would help with those. Surely i had to reset some games cause of gloams that instakilled me but other than that it was really very easy.
I got a skullders and farmed full tal set (most of it dropped twice or more except armor that i got from pindle), except the amulet that i traded for a Lum i think… Now with full Tal and a CTA hell is a breeze…
You can farm some decent areas with basic gear, Stealth, Lore, Spirit weap/shield…
If cold sorc, focus on Andy, Ancient Tunnels, Meph.
Hdin, level that boy up and go Pit, AT, Countess… farm runes or better gear to get to the next level of farming which would be Chaos/Baal, Nihl, ect.
no. i think nightmare runes go up to lem, and no further. most of the “best” runewords require stuff like ist, vex, jah, ber, gul, sur, those ones.
Pretty much this. If you’re not running a Sorc on the first run, it’s a lot more grinding.
Go hammerdin, I soloed act 1 hell while level 50s
Definitely agree with Ceppi above clear hell as a hammerdin, get some gear and then switch to a smiter if you want to do solo Ubers.
Ive had zero issues as a Hammerdin and mine just finished Hell Act2.
Thou truth be told in terms of speed nothing matches a sorceress. She was my first toon and she has feed gear to my jawzon, my hammerdin (who is going smiter after clearing hell), my bone necro and my trapson.
