As things are right now there will never be any items in D2R that are as rare and hard to get as Diablo 2.
For me personally the hunt for these incredibly rare, but useful items always kept non ladder an interesting place to play the game. There was always a higher goal that went beyond perfect charms and perfect gear. This was probably the biggest factor for allowing me to continue to play D2 for over 10+ years after initial release.
I think a potential way to make things more interesting is to give us the ability to find legacy items throughout or time playing, and these should be incredibly rare that maybe only one player finds them per ladder.
This type of hunt could help longevity for D2 long term and will keep an interesting economy running in non-ladder.
Also I understand some items were imported from offline, so instead of dupes maybe give us the chance to craft or find items like Soul Spurs, GSpurs, Storm Hide, 08 Valk, 08 Gaze, 08 Highlords, etc. I understand some of these 08 items came from open battle net, but they still became iconic and never too overpowered. In fact they added a lot of viable variation to the common cookie cutter builds.
Let me know what you veterans think about this idea. To be honest these crazy items are what kept D2 interesting for a long period of time. And again I donāt want these types of items be accessible to almost anyone, but at the same time in my opinion none of them are insanely OP.
Iām okay with those items never returning.
If the bot problem is addressed there will be plenty of items that are super rare in D2. Not to mention shorter ladder resets meaning you have less time to find them if you play ladder.
Getting a stash full of 40+ life skill GCs and perf roll runewords without bots (or significantly fewer) will still be an incredibly long grind that few will ever attain.
Those items will eventually accumulate on non ladder and become plentiful.
But say for example, the developers through in a potential 08 gaze drop for season 3 ladder or something crazy like that, it could help keep new items and interesting things flowing into non-ladder, but would also be a throwback to the original game.
I think it āmightā send the wrong signal to officially implement mass duped rare items in D2:R, so these are a very clear no go and I am actually very happy that all of that duped/bugged garbage on NL is not going to transfer to D2:R.
You are already able to find/craft extremely rare and expensive magics, rares and crafts in D2 as it is now.
When it comes to legit 08 items:
I know that many people have grown very fond of their āpreciousā, but most of them got changes for a good reason.
They are relics of the past and D2:R is a fresh start for everyone.
Most of these 08 items arenāt that crazy OP imo. They can supplement builds but they donāt ācreateā builds.

Itās funny how they changed overpowered 1.08 items only to bring 1.10 rune words which were exponentially more broken. Never made sense really.
Even if 1.08 Arkaineās Valor was still a thing, it wouldnāt matter. Everyone would still use enigma.
iād like to see them have different patch options 1.06b(Classic Pre Lod) and 1.08 1.09 1.10 imo 1.14 is the worst patch of d2
The power creep in this game was insane at the end of content patches. What they should do is have Windforce and a few others just use the 1.08 stats instead. Then everyone gets to use the ārealā Windforce.
Hello, Iām a big believer in the return of the 1.08 patch items.
I think a possible solution can be that they should appear much more rarely than their normal counterparts (a bit like the primordials in Diablo 3 so to speak, but even rarer) this with regard to unique objects. The very powerful affixes of rare items from 1.08, on the other hand, could also return, but I have no idea how to integrate them with the affixes of rare items starting from 1.09, which are much more resized. I would love to be able to get my hands back especially on the unique items from 1.08

Sure, why not also bring back hex charms, white rings, occy rings, wizzy gloves. Letās allow players to create Ith items and hybrid runewords. Every bugged and imported item can return!
On second thought, letās not.
It could be fun if they made changes to each ladder season.
So one season could be items that was available in v1.08 would have those stats for a season.

Iām against this, but would be āokayā with it as long as (like in D3 with ethereal items) they disappear after each ladder season, and werenāt tradeable.
Otherwise, no thanks.
I would like to see it being moved to non-ladder after the season = bringing some ānewā items to non-ladder for trading and pvp changes.

08 valk is already enough of a problem. Itās great that D2R wonāt have it.
Yeah okay - so maybe a bit too OP.
But would be really awesome to have a season with those items. Would change that ladder quite a bit and people who havenāt played the older version, get a chance to see some of the crazy gear that was once available.

I dunno, in my opinion those types of changes would just change the game too much butā¦meh. Iād probably still play a bit.
As it stands now the only way to really get those items is through JSP anyway. Either you have one you have been hanging onto forever and can trade it for another 08 or you are spending a ton of cash on FG or you know someone that is willing to dupe one for you. So, It is not like you could log in and just trade your random NL junk for one. Yes,They are a finite resource becoming rarer and scarser with each passing year and in most cases way OP and the owners are not going to part with them very easily .
There is zero reason to add them to D2:R. If you want to play with them or aquire them keep on playing D2 NL and spend the cash on FG. D2:R is a fresh start for everyone that wants to play it and everyone starts on an even playing field . Fingers crossed they being Blizz can and will make an effort to stop the bots and or dupes that just destroy IMHO the game .
08 rares and magics are fine.
Unique definitely not.
