Players X command bugs

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a character in single player
  2. type Enter, then “/players 8”
Expected behavior: there should always immediately be a message saying something like “Players set to 8”
Actual behavior: the message above isn’t shown all the time. It seems to be random whether it shows or not. This makes it unclear if the game has registered the command or not.

Other related issues:

  • In PlugY (and maybe vanilla LoD, I’m not sure), if you set /players 8 once, then it automatically gets set again when a new game is created. At the start of the game, there is also a message that comes up in chat that says “set players to 8” so we know that is happening. D2R doesn’t currently do this, so I have to type it in every game. This is a significant drop in quality of life / efficiency when farming (e.g., LK runs in single player). PLEASE fix this in d2r.
  • The game chat log does not clear in between games as it does in LoD. As a result, you can many previous messages that say “set players to 8” (if you use this command in every new game that is made). However, it is not possible to tell if that message came from an earlier game or the current game. This contributes to being unable to tell if players 8 is in effect.

not a bug.
its /players8, not /players 8
Course its offline only

Both work (with and without the space) and always have.

It’s worked for me every time. Can’t reproduce.

Also, it is really easy to tell if it’s in effect because the monsters become much harder to kill.

@TimberWolf, please stop commenting on my bugs. Doesn’t reproduce for you? Ok, it reproduces for me. I am a professional software engineer and I know how to reproduce a bug and write a bug report. Your commentary just reduces the likelihood that blizzard will fix the bug.

If you are a professional software engineer, then you should know that part of testing is verifying. If your bug is so easily reproducible, then it should affect everyone, shouldn’t it? The fact that it is doesn’t means that there could be other factors affecting why it works for some and not others.

Oh, and since you don’t want my help, I won’t bother telling you how to deal with your other issue.

I can also vouch for what is written in the original post. There’s been other threads commenting on the lack of acknowledgement from the game system, as well as the change to it resetting every game, whereas it formerly only rest on application exit in the original client.

Bugs don’t always reproduce as consistently as you might hope. This particular bug seems to happen at random, and you might have to repeat making a game many times to notice it. It could be caused by a programming error where an unitialized variable is used, and its contents are just whatever random memory was in that location before the program started. You say it didn’t reproduce- how many times did you try it?

Anyway, this post is for Blizzard employees. The goal of posting is to have them attempt to reproduce and fix it.

Legacy D2 keeps playersX settings between games until the application is restarted

PlugY persists it in the save file; and also has an option for default playersX setting.

Both worked in legacy D2.

I have experienced this as well. Relogging seems to help.

Im getting this too, it seems to still work but no confirmation is quite frustrating, relogging works but after 2-3 LK-Meph runs it starts not working again, the game still registers as i can tell im fighthing P3 meph but still very annoying not being able to confirm it,please fix blizz!! or put the actual players setting in the top right corner would be great!!

I can confirm that command works but the confirmation of the command working rarely shows up for me.

I tried to input this command many times during one lobby but got no confirmation. I relogged and tried to do that again - no luck. Same for next relog. But when I created 4th lobby, suddenly all the commands I typed in a previous lobbies showed up in a chat. I typed /players command then and got confirmation instantly.

Same issue here, after few times entering in same character and difficulty, trying set /players 8, stop works, to me like after 3 games in a row changing the number of players with “/players 8”, it stops showing me the message "

Have been experiencing this bug since the launch. Is Blizzard going to respond? or…

This bug is annoying and reduce the enjoyment of playing D2R…
