The one feature ( more of a much needed quality of life feature) i would like to see added is /player x for multiplayer. And before you all start screaming, hear me out.
How often do mfers come into your questing game to mess up your quests, all the time. Hell, they also come into your chaos, baal’s, cow , etc games simply to take advantage of the player count for better loot, xp, etc. Adding this feature would surely help alleviate this problem.
Also, i love playing multiplayer but when my friends aren’t around, i mostly play on my own. But doing so prevents me from taking advantage of the player count for added monster drops, xp and so on. Sure i could join other players games wether it be trade, runs or questing but i don’t like to do that simply because i don’t like ti when other players come into my game for this reason.
This feature wont break the game, but rather make it a lot more interesting while also making your mfing, questing and runs all the more enjoyable. If you prefer to still join other players gameto mf, you can still do so.
Let me know what you guys think
EDIT: heres a few things you guys have said that should be considered if they add this feature.
- make it non-ladder only
- remove the xp boost when the “/player x” command is activated to promote playing with
others to quest or do xp runs.

When I want progression without anyone interrupting my gameplay, I create private games with passwords; I join public games to find other people who want to do the same thing and we discuss game names and passwords together; it’s pretty easy to find someone willing to help you in a private game or other people who are on the same/close to the quests you are;
Public games are for the public to join, are they not?
I’m a firm believer that public games are a free for all and fair game for everyone;
PSA: Next time someone joins your public game and you feel disgruntled about it let them know by going hostile! That’ll teach em!

I was sorta against this until I started joining Baal runs hosted by somebody that had no intention of doing Baal. People would join and sit around and then disband while that guy was doing Chaos Sanctuary and Travincal, etc. If people didn’t abuse other people’s games and disrespect their time I’d say leave it how it was intended.

I am totally in favor, not only for drops but also leveling as leveling alone is a pain in the A$$ and you can’t always find players.
My only problem is : This game alredy feels extremely dead online ( mainly due to the awful lobbi ) and theres no real incentive to play coop. With this feature it will feel like playing offline. But thats more of a problem from the game design then anything else, in general i am in favor.

While it would be nice to be able to do this, I fear that if we were to get Players X in multiplayer- it might kill public lobbies to a point. otherwise, what incentive would we as players have to play with other people? sure you could say that we would go and seek help when we needed it, but once your build is done- all that would be left are trade lobbies, games limited to 2 people with players 7 on, and people begging for help to no one that is willing to.
Pros:
-We can have high loot amounts if we have the dps
-Freedom to actually solo effectively in D2 online
-XP progression becomes trivial past 85
-the added challenge for those that want it - say someone wants to fight a P8 dclone or something and hate their life
Cons:
-Death of nearly all trist runs, as simply killing fallen in blood moor becomes more effective for XP, as well
-Overinflux of runes, essences, keys, and gems- removing the rarity of some of the most sought after items in the game
-Bots will have an easier time solo farming- even if they become a thing like in classic where they run a ‘service’ to players but pick anything potentially valuable to RMT.
-Trade would likely suffer greatly because its easier to get it yourself and there’s no need to talk to others to do it. - realize, with just 5 players, high runes drop an absurd ~3 times more often [this is probably wrong, i forget how exactly the drop rates work but… when all you need to do is open super chests and not kill enemies to get your runes… yeah thats not fun thats boring]
All in all, I think this should be kept from multiplayer, or if added, be limited to 3-4 players bonus. that way, you cant get optimum loot. I used to hate that i couldnt do it in classic but… it exists in single player so that you can do these things and speed up your farm through lower kurast, arcane sanctuary, black tower, nilathak, etc, as you cant trade in single player. It was there so that in single player you could stand a chance at making that enigma without having to spend a year farming for that Ber. or get tyhat infinity without multiple years of doing the exact same thing, in online, D2 exists to put players at odds with each other while forcing you to accept that you need to ask others for help sometimes - Even streamers ask their followers to help them get SOJs for annis.

The main reason for wanting /playerX in online is so people can get the higher number of drops more players afford in a single player game, not having to play the “let’s see who can click and grab the loot first” game. It’s the same reason you do it in single player, provided your character is strong enough to efficiently kill the higher hp mobs. You want the highest chance for drops to get what is essentially personal loot.
I don’t see an issue if they were to implement it. I don’t think it would kill multiplayer as it is now in any way – people still group up to quest together, farm baal for xp runs, etc.

Don’t really matter to me.
Ever since the beginning, I’ve been playing multiplayer almost as if I was in single player anyways. I suspect that it will always continue to be this way for me.
Only Interactions with Other Players I’ve Ever Had
- Dumping any unneeded items I found in a random normal game.
- TRADE (This is actually important for me)
The main reason why I still play Multiplayer is to trade items with others. All other aspects of d2 gaming, I just solo.
I actually tried joining random quest/trade/Baal games just to mf on my own. Then, I started feeling bad and tbh a bit tiring to mf this way. So for the past 2 weeks, I just solo in my own private game.
I can live without the command but if it were ever to be implemented, I wouldn’t complain.

Here is an idea. Remove the item drop increase bonus from the party bonus but increase the base drop rate 50% of the delta to offset the change. Just make it so the difficulty remains and slightly buff XP rate to promote teamwork. Party with randoms to get through the game and earn XP but you don’t rely on the party system for drops. This in my honest opinion would fix most issues without needing to change the loot system from FFA to ploot.

I would be all for it.
I tend to play solo so I would appreciate it. I wanted online for Cross-Progression and to play with some people a few times a month; however, outside of that ./playersX would be a welcome addition for when I am soloing.
Do I need it at all? No, but I would like it. If the concern is bots then just don’t allow it in ladder… NL’s economy will eventually be oversaturated anyways so I don’t see the point in preserving it at the detriment of a nice addition to the game for probably a fair number of players.

Would totally love it.
Face it, guys. We won’t get the same authenic d2 experience, that we had in orig d2. Basically it’s for nostalgia and a chance to live the game once more. But think: nobody(or mb some marginal group) wants to be nostalgic for 100500+ baalruns in order to get “insert itemname here”. Most people want to be nostalgic about their ONCE FINISHED BUILDS and ENDGAME (ubertrist etc). So basically my opinion is “cut the grind”. And I will be supportive of ANY thoughts that can cut it. And letting ppl 8 in multiplayer is a simple yet effective decision IMHO.
The DIFFICULTY is about not being able to do smth due to lack of skill, but not due to the need of 100500+ hrs of RANDOM FARMING (which is not even nearly close to the term “DIFFICULT”, just “REPETITIVE”).
Also I would like to see rune drops upped etc. Yes it will kill the economy… But that’s what ladder is for, don’t u think? To give ppl who crave it a fresh start.
But blizz won’t listen…
Servers crash (and when u crash… Welcome to the que again). Anni is basically UNOBTAINABLE. And what blizz do? Nothing, they’re just silent.

You know what, I actually agree with this. However, the ONLY thing that I would change is that by adding /player8 to multiplayer, you do NOT get the benefit of added xp. For that you have to actually join games with other players. This way you can farm efficiently on solo but players will still join pub games for questing and leveling. I actually think that makes the most sense.

My idea fixes that. Add /p8 to multiplayer for increased drop rates only and not xp boost. For any additional xp boost you have to be in a baal run or questing with others. This way MFERS will leave quest games alone and make solo games. Public games will still be just as alive because no one is going to get anywhere close to level 99 without joining others.

Well no. The loot boost of /players8 is the main issue cause people farming LK 24/7 at /players8 will destroy the rune economy. Just add personal loot so people cant join multiplayer games for better cause they just get their /players1 loot even in a 8men game and add the /players8 command for a xp boost so solo players are able to reach lvl99 within a acceptable time (still around 4000 baal runs but not 20000+ like its on /players1)
I think Samuel L Jackson would agree that those mfers gotta go.

I am so happy that “magic find” got abbreviated to MF because this sentence is hilarious using an alternative definition of MF.
Bnet needs players 8 command, make it happen devs.

I like the idea. It won’t kill the social experience for me… most of the time the people i connect with are people in trade or random games, not exp rush games.

If anything allow this feature but only in non ladder games.
Yeah i think this needs to be put in, I myself being someone who joins games to mf sometimes I don’t think its proper to increase the difficulty and not help out with a quest or a baal run etc. It is a poor system, It has no effect on playing with others because if you join a game to mf you are not playing with people regardless just making it worse for them. If you want to level or do a quest then you will play with others.
This thread definitely needs more Samuel L Jackson references. You can never have enough MF
