A couple times a player has expressed hostility towards and killed me. I am not sure why as I play with groups, stick with groups, and I never pick anything up, I leave it for others. I was told that they are just immature kids, but my question is how does this happen and why? Is this PVP? If a player expresses hostility and tries to kill me, can I kill him?
Player killing is a legitimate way of playing the game. Just always has been. I don’t really do it myself, but other people enjoy the game that way.
If someone goes hostile, immediately teleport back to town and wait it out or just make a new game.
What is the purpose though if one cannot fight back? This is not PVP then I take it?
Once they are hostile to you, you can fight back.
Yes, its Player vs Player.
You can kill them if they hostile you and attempt to kill you. It’s always a 2 way street.

They are immature kids. Just kill them if you want.
you hear the hostile, you have a few options,
the best option is to just leave the game.
option two, go to town, go to the bathroom, make a snack, see if they have the patience to wait for you.
option 3. fight them.
but the people that prey on unsuspecting victims are USUALLY sociopaths who thinks it’s funny to ruin other peoples day, it’s usually best to just to avoid these types of people at all cost because they are truly mentally ill.

If a player Hostiles you then they’re automatically Hostiled as well and then yes you can kill them.
But a player has to go back to town to Hostile and they can’t use a TP back out of town, they have to use a WP. If they manage to do otherwise they’re hacking and you should report them.
Thank you, that’s my plan if it ever happens again. Over all I enjoy playing in groups. It is idiots like these that just p!ss people off.

Yes, that’s an option.
Usually people that hostile in PvM games are people that suck at real PvP and want to feel better killing people that are not prepared for it. They usually gear towards PvP, so take care if you try to fight them, they might use absorb gear and things considered BM in PvP. They will also use cheesy tactics and builds.
Also look at the chat, sometimes people will declare hostility because you ignored their messages. You might be able to resolve the issue without fighting if you want to.
I’ve recently seen people using the hostile feature in Tomb runs when they want to split in a separate tomb. You can easily wait at the canyon waypoint and just NK them.

what they can’t do is enter a friendly teamate tp if they are hostile to someone
as well as the red portals(Cows,Nilathak Temple, Abanddon, Infernal Pit, Uber Tristam, Pit of Acheron)
or do you mean something like set up a tp next to the person they want to kill, go town and proceed to hostile AND enter their tp b4 it vanish ?
if so there would be 2 method for that…1 which you mentionned(scripting)…and unplug/replug the net connection cable for a very short time which will cause in-game lag for a brief moment…allowing to simultaneously hostile and enter their tp during the lag time(delayed response of their click)
It’s civilized compared to Diablo 1. D1 there was no indication they were hostiled to you, until they attacked you and you started taking damage. IIRC some skills even splash damaged allies regardless of hostile toggle. Then when you died, all your gear fell on the ground for anyone to pickup, not in a contained body and there was no “alt” key to make sure you found it all.
Why Diablo I is great and probably still my favorite Diablo game.

You can TP back to town if you’re hostile but you shouldn’t be able to TP from town

I really like auto-join, but that’s a quick way for a pk’er to find your location before they hostile you. If you don’t want new players locating you, turn off auto-join.
