Infinity lacks some important attributes as a melee weapon. No IAS and no Indestructible features, making it a lot less feasible as a melee fighting weapon. My guess is even if Blizzard is to allow it in a spear, not many people will use it that way, and most will still use it on their merc for the conviction aura.
While I agree, the damage that infinity would give a melee focused zon would hopefully make up the amount of gear needed to keep resistances up. That’s all I’m saying. If they want a melee zon to compete this change has to happen.
Spear is two handed, requires a zon to use two-hands, so can’t equip shields (for resistant or skills). Infinity offers no resistance either, so it won’t help in that department. If you really love zons to wield a spear, making it in Breath of the Dying (BOTD) is the better and cheaper option and it works RIGHT NOW in spears, no need to wait for 2.4. It offers higher enhanced damage, 60% IAS, life/mana leech, Indestructible, all these favor the melee builds.
Anyways, the devs actually talked about new runewords to compliment the 2.4 changes, so it may not be on Infinity, but may happen to be another new runeword for the melee zon.
Even with an Infinity spear, I’d be guessing the attack speed from the javelins and the +7 skills from Thunderstroke + spirit would even it out quite a bit. I’d be curious how it actually compares. BotD has 25% more lightning res reduction and crushing blow. Crushing blow seems less important on normal bosses when you are already dropping them with Charged Strike. You’d also have more physical damage, but the skill adds so much lightning damage with the +6 extra skills.
You probably would be destroying regular bosses, just like a Javelin Zon already does, but you’d still have bad AoE clear. You’d probably be switching to the newly updated cannot miss attack for Ubers, unless you have insane attack rating.
Weapon swapping to spear Infinity for immunes/bosses(If any better) would be pretty sick though. Like “Aww lightning immune” hit W, cannot miss crushing blow.
I don’t see a problem with that honestly. It makes good builds even better and it widens the scope of possibilities.
Press “w” and use lightning fury. Press “w” again to apply conviction and -lres before lightning bolt hit.
I never thought Of this. I am for it
Needs to happen. The melee changes they make would likely not even be used if these changes aren’t made.
