Passive Skill Tree D2R

What if, in addition to Attributes and the Skill Tree, there was Passive Skill Tree?

Released as a part of a new D2R expansion, that unables the option to show old graphics, so this wont Cause any problems when adding new content to the game. While also being an optional expansion, so people can opt out of these changes to the game.

The Passive Skill Tree could simply be a 4th page in the skill tab.

The Passive Tree could consist of bonuses to certain skills or global stats. For example:

  • +10/20/30% more base Weapon Damage when using Sacrifice.
  • +1 to maximum Summon Grizzly count.
  • +10/20/30/40/50% extra Deadly Strike damage multiplier.
  • +6/9/12/15% chance for Sorc’s Fire Skills to ignore enemy Fire Resistance.
  • +15/25% more damage with Open Wounds.
  • +10/15/20% more Defense from Armor slot, when using 2 handed weapons.
  • +X% increased Weapon Speed when using Jab.
  • Tornado becomes homing/seeking, +X amount of cooldown.
  • Summon Wolfs get 40/60/80% of bonus movement speed, from Druid’s Boots.

You get the idea.

These bonuses could be placed in a tree structure for each class and maybe unlocked at double the lvl requirement of the Skill Trees, or something like that.
For example:

  • +1 to maximum Summon Grizzly count. (Req clvl 60)

It is also possible to add a base skill point allocated requirement, for passives to be unlocked. For further balance opportunities.

I’m not quite sure how these Passive Skill Tree points should be given, like 1 every X lvl or by Quests completed.

This was a quick “shower thought” I got, something that would further improve D2R’s class customization and give veterans something new to play with.

Tell me what you think, if this is something the game would benefit from or not.

The whole game is built on the old game, so no way for them to separate it out… but not like your suggestion would be affected, hitting “G” does not change your menus to the old style, it is only the characters/map/monsters.

Either way they will never release truly new content or additions to this game in the form of additional expansions. This game is relegated to very simple updates to keep the game sorta fresh. There is ZERO business case for them to create such a thing just to sell 1% of what they make off d3, immortal and soon d4…

Either way sounds like you’re just asking for some buffs which I agree some spells definitely require them…

I have to echo Guitars here.

Diablo 2 is and has been at EOL for a very long time. There’s no real incentive for them to introduce any new ‘systems’ per se, as it D2R is simply a game to tide everyone over until Diablo 4 - and introduce a breath of fresh air to keep people interested in the Diablo IP.

I would absolutely love to be wrong and have them do something ground breaking or game changing for D2R but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

At best, I can see them allowing the full breadth of modding before they add anything significant.

But as an aside, your theorycraft of what could be is always a refreshing sight. It just means that there’s still some life in the Diablo 2 community. Mayhaps the modding community sees stuff like this and implements it in some shape, way or form.

I like what you bring to the table. Keep it up.

Also don’t take what I say as a negative. I’m simply knee deep in realism, to a fault. I mean well otherwise. :>

There is a passive tree already, its exclusive to amazon though

D2 tree is awesome as it is. Not too easy or complicated, perfectly balanced. PoE tree is overkill and I don’t like how it became a trend now.

This I mean.

Skill viability is another thing.
I guess my point is no need for more trees. Balance those that exist already.
