I have over 100% Magic Find and the game is giving me sh*t. I go to area 85 to the Pit in Act 1 on Hell, I struggle to kill the monsters a lot, I’m at level 72 and nothing. Absolutely no magic items. Zero. Absolutely nothing, total c**p. I feel really put off because I play and play but the game is not giving me anything. I feel like unsintalling. Is this normal?
Some builds aren’t very viable for the pit. What build are you using? maybe you shouldn’t be doing pit @72 if you can’t kill effectively.
Also magic items? any bossmob guarantees a magic item+, so I dunno if this is a troll post or what.
Depending on build you’re probably wasting a lot of that fcr. 105% is a breakpoint for some builds, so should try to get that, especially if teleporting.
If you’re struggling to kill monsters in Hell difficulty, you have two options…
1: Respec to a more efficient build for the area(s) you plan to run.
2: Drop down to a lower difficulty and run the higher areas there until you can get some better gear to compliment your build.
A fireball/frozen orb sorceress is a good pit runner, and overall a decent build for all difficulties and most areas in the game.
I recommend farming nightmare until you can clear hell pits effortlessly (or rather, an 85 area with no immunities to your skill tree).
For me, I host NM cow games then I kill mobs away from the party and get decent enough runes/uniques to gear a blizz sorc with. Blizzard is the strongest pure-element sorc build if you’re poor like I always am.
Ancient tunnels in hell are 85 with no cold immune, so that’s a good spot to hit in a splitfarm game once you have enough mana and +skills to clear it fast, and an Insight merc who doesn’t die easily (needs to be high level + elite insight + life leech helm and treachery armor).
Am I misunderstanding, or do you think that Faster Cast Rate increases magic find? I have a headache, so maybe I am misreading something.
I have to lean towards going pure on one element unless OP has at least +9 all skills
The kill speed as a hybrid sorc is abysmal without the S tier gear.
Blizzard + Ancient tunnels is my recommendation. And being at least level 85 with +9 cold skills before even thinking about heading there in a splitfarm game.
Eh, we all had to learn at some point that spreading your skills out makes you a jack of all trades and a master of none.
I’m hoping they meant 100 MF and just mistyped out of frustration or we have another problem altogether.
If they are talking about MF, this is a great graph to show optimal MF. If you are hampering clear speed greatly to go above ~300, I advise against that.
On a similar note, 100 MF is not that much. Of course it is much better than nothing, but very easy to get 200+.
One of the hardest things to understand as a newer player is the importance of clear speed vs magic find.
Going to the most-well-known 85 area and taking 10-15+ minutes to clear it will lead to frustration very quickly. it might be 25-50 runs before you find something “valuable”, so you want those runs under 5m per game optimally…
Define “anything” because some of these posts are complaints that 10 Jah runes havnt dropped in their 15 mf runs and thats unacceptable to them…
Get 105% FCR to hit your breakpoint or 117 for Lightning.
Go with a Forb/Hydra or Nova/Hydra, or just a boring Blizzard, and farm the areas that work for your build.
I am rocking a Nova/Hydra right now at 120FCR, mostly budget self found gear until I built a HOTA today and lucked out with a Shako day 2… Spirit Mon, Tal belt, magefists, ect…
With proper play, you will be able to do Andy, Pits, Countess, Meph, Pindle… great early farm areas to find your gear.
I hope I didnt waste time on this post as most of these new account, complainers, make these threads and never reply to the abundance of help.
The first 100 MF is the more valuable than the next 100.
Well, sure. The first 10 is more valuable than the next 10 and the next 10 and so on. It has diminishing returns at an exponential rate. My point is that 100 is really not much. You can easily get a 3 socketed helm and 4 socketed armor and plug perfect topazes into them, plus go to merchants and buy boots/gloves with high MF.
It was more to inform them that if they think 100 is a lot of MF, it is not. Still very beneficial though as you pointed out.
no magic items is quite impossible. Every boss drops a magic item or higher quality most of the time. Also has nothing to do with FCR. Man, get your stuff together.
I’m sure the OP has ran off without anything. At lvl 72 you are trying to farm an end game (lvl 85) area…sure you will suck. Try farming something a bit lower lvl like the Countess, guaranteed rune drop which is probably more than you currently have. You can spend your time leveling up running the countess and Andy, you get drops and exp.
Imagine that i hunt a ber rune or 2 Sur runes on LK p7. I have over 2000 runs and still havent seen any. Imagine wasting a whole week grinding to the bone and not rewarded for that.
Yeah, my bad, I meant MF
Don’t farm a lvl 85 area in your 70’s.
Farm Nightmare. Meph, Diablo, Baal. They will drop good enough gear that you can farm them fast, and actually get improvements.
100% MF isn’t much. I can get 300% on my WW barb in his IK set, and I don’t really get a ton of amazing drops with that.
Keep in mind that 100% MF is only doubling your current drop rate. So if you have a .05% chance to get X, then it only goes up to .1%, which is still abysmally low. you want volume over level, so Stick with Nightmare Meph or Diablo or Baal. you’ll enjoy the runs more cause your kicking boot faster, and you’ll eventually get fun drops.
This is semi-bad advice… It all depends on the character build and the player’s skills with that character. It is always best to farm Hell when you are able to, you will get better drops hands down.
I dont deny that NM Meph and on is great in NM, but they are not as good as say, Hell Andy on a loop, add in Hell Meph. All you need is proper skill allocation and good kiting skills, while accepting the occational 1 shot death because of sht happens.
100%, get as much as you can, as fast as you can but maintain kill power and speed.
Im sub level 80 right now and have been farming Hell Andy, Pits, Countess and Meph/Pindle for awhile now, since level 70. The returns are always greater.
