I’m aware that keyboard and mouse isn’t available for console at this time, but as a long time player who enjoys both the multi-player & single player experience alike, would it be possible to add a section of options to the “Game Creation” tab for Single Player to simulate extra players like the good old days?
If there will not be any options for keyboard and mouse support on consoles in the future to simply bring up the message box and type it in manually, could you at least add a click box for enabling this option and being able to set the “Simulated Experience” just like with setting the maximum number of players you will allow in your games when creating an online game?

Agreed! Great suggestion!

You can set the number of players for your private game already.
You don’t need a console Command. The feature is already there.
I recognise this initially looks like the max number of players you’ll allow in the game.
But has anyone checked how this affects their game or are we all waiting for the Internet to tell us?
I may just have a look myself as I’m getting so bored of seeing 100 versions of the same bloody thread.
This does not work on single player.
You are talking about character limit. We are talking about the / players command in single player used to simulate number of people present in the game. Thus rasing difficulty/xp/drops

This ^^^. There’s some newb fanboys spitting out advice who obviously haven’t played D2 before the remaster dropped. Or, they are deliberately spouting misinformation. I’m not sure.

Yes I know.
Is that all it does or will ever do?
The character limit only sets how many people can join your game. So it has nothing to do with the slash players command.

That’s a fair assumption but is it correct?
Link to where this was tested please?
I think you are confused. First of all, the slash players command is single player only. Will never work on an online character. And the character limit you are talking about only exists online.

OK I think I see what you mean.
I never played in on PC so “Diablo II: Resurrected” is a new experience for me (though I’ve been gaming since “Pong”).
I just checked and you can adjust the Player Count in your offline game though, even though you won’t be having anyone join you.
So it makes sense to suppose it could be used that way either now or in the future.
Additionally it could be added as a separate feature in the future.
How do you adjust it in an offline game?
On the Character Selection Page select “Offline”.
Highlight your Offline Character and then go to “Options” before entering the game. Then change the number of players to 8.
You’ll then be prompted to confirm the settings and your game will open with that setting.
Like you point out this could very well be meaningless. Unless it’s not, or it’s something they could in place of a “command line” in future.
Are you talking about the “Max player count” under game creation options? That is still for online only, have no effect on offline.

Yes and you can still adjust it in Offline Mode.
Might just have been “easy to leave it that way”. Might serve another purpose either now or in the future.
That is for online game creation player limit… The options are not for single player game creation, because you have a static game in Offline mode. This is why in offline mode your maps never randomize. (Edit: unless change difficulty)

This setting is solely for Online play. When highlighting this feature where you can set the “Max Player Count”, the info box specifically states, “Controls the maximum number of players allowed to join the game.”
I have tested this to make sure for Offline play and there is no change at all. This is purely an option for making an Online Private Game, allowing more or less people to enter the game. This does not translate to what we are referring to.
Azrael, you are not understanding this correctly. This option is only for PC players at this time, mainly because of keyboard and mouse support. There is no way to type in this command on consoles and there is no option in settings to change the player count simulation for Offline play. Your method is bunk. It is PURELY for Online Private Matches or if you use the Party Finder and end up having to create a match because you could not find an existing one to join.

I am understanding it correctly. I just challenged the accepted perception.
The facility to change the player count exists even for offline games. So if it’s been tested and it makes no difference, at least now we know for sure.
Again it’s possible that they use this in place of the “PC Console Command” feature in the future, or they simply add it at a later date.
Unfortunately, no: misunderstanding is still taking place.
The “/players x” command SIMULATES a given number of players in one’s current game, effectively making the game change AS IF there were a certain # of players in addition to one’s self, resulting in an escalated difficulty and drop rate, growing higher and higher with each SIMULATED player.
See below for Blizzard’s account of the feature (as found in the Diablo 2 Patch 1.09 Notes [August 20, 2001]):
“Typing “players X”, where X is a number between the current number of players and the maximum (8), in the message box will now set the effective number of players in the game in single player, [and] open Battle.net and TCP/IP games only.”

I still support the idea of at least adding a check box with a number adjuster to the Game Creation tab in the settings to set the /playersX command for Offline games if keyboard and mouse will not be supported, or in case it is eventually supported and we still cannot bring up the chat box… which would still suck, but at least we would have the option for the command.
