Online Character limit

I’m certain that this has been brought up before, but I wanted to say my piece on this:

So I’ve now hit the limit of characters that I can have online, it’s 20. It really should be at least a bit higher. I have 5 mules and hang on to a lot of loot, but that’s still a quarter of my characters. There’s so many builds and fun ways to play this game and I don’t think 20 slots is enough. When I play with friends, I also typically like to make a character just for that run as well. I have 3 characters for that purpose. I personally am probably never going to play ladder, but with that on the way, I’d imagine that more character slots will be needed for most players since I believe ladder characters become regular characters at the end of a season. I’d assume that it could cause a ton of problems for players if they’re at the limit at the end of a ladder season.
Basically, I really think that we should get some more slots. I’m not sure if there was a limit in the original game, but I had WAY more than 20 characters, probably close to 50 and I could play with others with any of them. I thought that I saw somewhere that the big 2.4 patch would be moving characters from a global database to a regional databases as well, so that may make it easier for the databases to handle more characters if that is a problem right now.

I agree, I think 30-40 slots would be good after 2.4 patch. that patch will open up even more builds to play. Im maxed at 20 as well.

I fear that many players would be pushed to play offline or not play at all without increased character limit. I think there should be atleast 50 slots.

I agree and honestly, the more the better.

This, thank you for posting!

Indeed, 20 is too few. I think 50 would be ideal, but more than that would not hurt my feelings. Not that I need that many, but with upcoming ladder I would not be able to play with the current limit as I’m already at 20 myself. Seven characters at various stages of the game and Mules to hold all of the stuff I’m not ready to toss just yet.

I also purchased two copies of the game. I originally got it for Xbox and I’ve enjoyed that platform quite a bit. However, inventory management isn’t so easy without the mouse and keyboard. So I bought a copy for PC when it went on sale last month. I got 20 character slots with the first purchase, but none with the second. That’s kind of wrong… But, character slots should not be tied to how many copies of the game you own. It should at least be 50 per account.

Note: I play online characters so they are available wherever I play. Sometimes it is on the PC and sometimes it is on the Xbox Series X on the 65" 4K TV because it looks soooo good!

Mules were a necessity. This is definitely an area where quality of life improvement should be focusing. They should add enough stash tabs to cover every item in the game and make things stackable and sortable. Make it a database. There’s literally no reason not to.

We need to let go of this archaic myth that it’s fun to have to decide what to keep. Literally no one thinks that’s fun and it’s been stupid since it was first thought of.

They just need to add 10 more character slots 2 more shared and a currency tab where all runes, keys, all pots, gems and organs stack to 500 or more.

We definitely need more character slots. Blizzard, please, please make this happen. There are so many builds I want to make especially with all the updated skills.

This is my number one priority in terms of changes I want to see to the game.

let me be the first person to say… the amount of data being stored per person. is absolutely minuscule

orginal d2 save files were 8 Kb… even if the d2:r format increased that by 100x they could still give each over 500 characters slots online and it would be absolutely nothing. there is another factor other than “disc” space that is holding them back… because disc space isn’t an issue

There’s no reason at all to have a character limit in D2R - online or off.

Agreed and I would go so far as to say a stash shouldn’t have a reachable limit. It should be like a database. Completely stackable. Every item in the game.

It’s already virtually the case now, but you just have to buy accounts and do archaic muling. Should just get rid of all that nonsense and streamline it.

Yeah, 50 would be pretty good. I had around that many characters in the original as I mentioned. An increase is necessary for ladder too.

weh i worked in rack server repair ( 4 years ago) we had servers that had like 16-32x 4-8 TB drives per rack, and 32 racks per server.

so one complete rack server could be as much as 8000, terabytes. 4 years ago… and its likely double that now

granted that size wasn’t the norm, some servers might have only have 2 tb drives and 8 of them and depending on, and some only had 1 driver with like 250 Gb ( clearly what they were used for wasnt storage), but the point is… storage is not an an issue.

i am curoius as the reason why…
i get “hoarding items” as a reason

but even then… we have ladder, and non ladder, and thats assuming u dont play classic, or hardcore. 20 slots for non ladder is fine, and 20 slots for ladder is fine. i think 50 slots would be enough for most people shouldn’t need more than active characters and 10 mules per ladder/nonladder.

That’s sorta the idea, lol. The “solution” is already there, just pay Activision 40 more dollars! :upside_down_face:

Look at it this way, if they want to limit the character amounts, then give us stacking of materials. This would reduce the number of mules we would need by a significant amount.

this is fairly accurate, solve the muling issue and maybe add few characters with a currency tab and people would be happy

Id say there are “about” 50 or so build i like.

I play HC and SC. (Mostly non-ladder)
So thats about 100 slots already.

And then i still need room for seasonal characters as well… perhaps another 5? Then about 5 mules.

So… 110 slots should just about do it.

Of course i could get rid of the 5 mules if they just gave us 10 shared pages total…
So, 105 if they raise the stash page limit.
