Should patch 1.08 characters be an option specifically for offline play? We still have the regular current as our main option but we can select between current patch or 1.08. Some people would enjoy farming through the old patch along with the exact drop rates at that time.
Would this be a good idea or no? Asking for the heck of it.
It’d be really cool but it won’t happen, it’d be a massive amount of work to properly remake the mechanics of old patches like 1.08/1.09 in D2R for a very niche group of people.
AFAIK someone at the Phrozen Keep was working on recreating 1.09 in D2R, a lot of stuff could be approximated but a lot of stuff would also be hardcoded and thus impossible to change in D2R.
I was maybe thinking of recreating 1.07 myself but again, that’d be a lot of work and a lot of stuff couldn’t be properly approximated in D2R. There’s also the factor of updates that often break mods and thus require the mod to be updated, which can be a hassle and if the creator doesn’t update it then the mod will be rendered unplayable.
No. While older patches had some merit and while some cry babies here make it sound like 1.10 ruined everything, most people will find the old patches to be boring so only a handful will play it. If you want a 1.08 like experience, play non-expansion… plus there were many exploits patched in 1.09-1.13, you think blizz wants to pay a developer to maintain a 1.08 variant along with coding in all patched exploits? Silly, blizz is not going to waste money for things that would only benefit the minority of players…
it would be an interesting feature for single player to give the option. Would be a nice gesture but I dont think it will happen.
While 1.09 was my favorite version of the game, this won’t happen.
older patch are the prime of the game sadly so many stuff is wrong with this game , i guess the same of warcraft 3 reforged , blizzard lack of dev with knowledge for this old game , so much history lost . for old d2 player is heart breaking
I think blizzard should allow you to rent a D2R server instance and allow you to use any patch you want and mod the hell out of it.
Reality is that they don’t have the old codes and don’t see the business value to add this product.
Please don’t spread false information. Non expansion aka classic has been modified with every patch since 1.07 and is nothing like the pre LoD version anymore
Huh I never said non expansion wasnt updated. If you want an 1.08 like experience where runewords did not dominate, rares such as imp shanks and magics like cruel weaps were the best, pre anni/torch times, etc then non-expansion is the closest experience you can have with the game.

1.08 LoD is not the same or even close to classic in any patch. You can try to die on that hill, but it doesn’t change the facts.
Before you answer with a “but”. I played classic up to 1.10 because I didn’t like the old LoD patches and preferred classic because it was very very different.
I would love to see a version switcher for D2R. I personally enjoy 1.06b the most and actually still play it just with the old graphics etc.
is so a long long time , i think 1.06 is the last version of classic that never get corrupt with pre lod patch , this version is gold , not sure ice blink still freez everything in this version
Yea, 1.08 was wildly different. You can’t just hop on classic and say it’s the same experience, it is not even close. Remember guided arrow?
This patch was the golden age of the end game unique item. In all honestly, if somehow this feeling can be brought back while keeping runewords, that would be a great turn of events.
But I want to find a valk and tals armor with the older mods. I was just a teenager at the time this stuff existed and the patch only lasted about 2 months. Sure non-expansion exist but it’s not the same experience. I’d love to find the old items again but with infinite time. I don’t see why it’s a bad idea. As long as this stuff does not come online it should be all good.
Maybe, but only if you purchase a wow sub or buy it from the Diablo 4 shop.
