Title… I can go to C:\user\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected and I see the offline character files but they are not showing up in the list when I’m in the game.
This happened in Online play as well when the server crashed but I don’t understand why offline characters disappeared? Any ideas?

Not sure. I’m taking a little break for lunch, but I just checked, and all of my characters are there; both online and offline.
Had my offline character disappear as well. Level 17 already, didn’t show up in the list in game, looked for a save file and nope! All gone. Why the hell would offline characters disappear?

same happend to me, lvl 24 amazon disappeared over night. shared stash still there but character is gone. i just checked the local saves which should be in C:\Users\Name\Documents\Diablo II Resurrected but there is nothing… my game doesnt even create a folder that is called Diablo II Resurrected. it just createt one named Diablo II
I’ve just refunded the game entirely and gone back to the original d2. Saves me the heartache
I think I figured it out. If your original Diablo 2 save folder is in the same sub folder as your Diablo 2 Resurrected AND you use the same name, D2R fails in saving your character progress into the folder. I cleared my D2 folder of saves and went back to D2R.
TLDR: Delete D2 save folder or its contents or avoid giving D2R characters the same name as your D2 characters.

That…is supremely bad code right there. One directory’s files should never affect another’s, especially with regard to naming. This means D2R is only checking globally and not mode specific.
I’m glad I saw this before I transferred my offline characters from D2C since I tend to name them the same. This is why I said last month the game wasn’t ready for launch. It just didn’t leave VV enough time to properly test everything while being in the middle of super tight crunch.
this computer is 2 month old and had never original d2 installed so no way thats the problem and even if i delete the folder the game just creates the same one again after launching it so this doesnt help me tbh
Yep. I agree. That is extremely poor design. For now Im keeping a backup of my saves everytime I log off just in case something else is up with the saving system.
At any rate I managed to retain my save after several restarts. Its working - for now.
They beta tested for like less than 30 days total… what do you expect… something good?
I’m working on a script that automatically backups the games save folder to a USB with the time and date added everytime you launch the game.
I’ve made one for original D2 three or so years ago. Should be good to go tomorrow sometime I’m hoping.
