Offline character limit is 30! (Switch)

Why?!

This is offline play not the dumb Ladder! I would like to create as many characters as I want in Offline mode.

This might seem stupid for some but this is the only way to do the Holy Grail challenge.

Think about the loot hoarders Blizz! At least in SP Offline mode!

Damn this limitation is stupid!

Can anyone confirm that is the case for all consoles not only the Switch?

Didn’t it take MrLlamaSC 2 years to complete this as his “day job”?

You haven’t really made a compelling case for needing more than 30 characters.

How does this benefit the Community?

Well on PC you can have unlimited character slots but on the Switch only 30. This does NOT use more CPU or GPU power. Why limiting it?

Probably to do with memory. Each character has an entire game world associated with them and you’re playing on the Switch.

Even with a 256GB microSD you’ve only got so much space for certain games.

I’m sure there’s a limit on the number of characters for XBox and Playstation. I know there’s a finite amount for “Diablo III” but it’s still more than enough to play with and have fun with.

Even PC players adding “unlimited” characters would eventually hit a barrier because there’s only so much space.

30 seems a pretty generous number. What’s the benefit to going over this?

It might sound stupid but I love collecting things in games and especially in D1, D2 and even in D3.

Like having all sets and many uniques. And now with the shared stash I could easily have mules offline and have the sets on them. On D2 I used PlugY ofc. but here I have to use mules for “collecting”.

Currently I am really enjoying the game but when I have different characters for different builds and I do not know how many “mule” characters I could have to hoard items
Also it is HDD/SSD space. Something that do not need a hard limit. As long as you have space why not allow more character creation  It is really simple solution and not a big hurdle. It is NOT like I am asking for more online character slots that could affect other people in some way or be a burden to the servers.

This new remake not allowing me to do something I could do in the original is asinine. I make WELL OVER 30 different builds that I tweak differently. It’s my business why I need over 30 slots. It’s BS that a game from 2000 has a feature that a hyped remaster in 2021 doesn’t… No excuse for it at all. Let me pay them 10 bucks a slot for all I care, run it like PoE. Because I’m probably just gonna buy another copy to get the slots. Ridiculous that anyone would have to explain why they want to enjoy something a certain way to people who suck up to a company.

I don’t think you’re required to “suck up” to Blizzard.

Certainly if you commissioned Blizzard to make the game specifically for you and they failed to satisfy the terms of your contract with them then you’ve a legal recourse here but that’s not how or why “Diablo II: Resurrection” was made.

For the convenience of being able to enjoy it on console Blizzard have to balance the needs of their audience with the requirements of the platforms the games are being presented on.

So you can’t have 4K on the Switch and all platforms will include the necessity for games to have a “maximum size”.

Still I don’t see Blizzard taking issue with your solution to buy multiple versions of the game to satisfy you’re requirement for 30+ characters.

Though you might want to consider the money saving option of creating some extra profiles on your console rather than re-buying it several times.

I don’t play console I play PC. Also “to satisfy you are requirement”. WTF is this misuse of “you’re”. I know, bashing people for grammar hurts feelings but past a certain point are we okay with our species sounding completely inept when we speak?

“You’re” is an abbreviation of “You Are”. “Your” indicates something that belongs to you.

So the sentence reads: “I don’t think you are required to suck up to Blizzard”.

At any rate my point still Fing stands, I don’t play on console. And 90% of actual Diablo 2 players have problem with this dog refuse character limit. In the PC community however, I find it FING LAUGHABLE that a game from 2000 outshines it’s remaster from 2021 in certain regards. Not being able to /f m message at all my friends at once to ask who is up for Baal runs for instance or not having more than 20 laughable character slots. Pre-expansion, LoD, SC, HC, Ladder and Non-ladder chars will all be played and people in this community make A LOT of all of those.

The size to save a map must be same of D2 original, and it’s not heavy size for each map, thats no sense limit the amount of offline characters, i don’t need to think if this is good or bad to community, if someone wishes to use whole HD in diablo 2 characters, why not?

The pc character limit is not unlimited last I checked I was capped at 20.

.d2s files RARELY get above 5-10kb iirc, but even if we were to pump that number by 100x and make each save file 1mb you could store 1,000 characters in a single GB… having a limit of 30 is pretty rough

no one needs anymore than all 7 classes.

if there was no “Token of Absolution” or whatever its called ( honestly i quit playing d2 LoD before it was introduced, and went full Median XL).

if the respec token didn’t exist, i would agree…

get good at being efficient.
thats all i gotta say.

Hello fellow Diablo fans,

I just want to confirm that you can make over 50 characters in D2R offline mode (PC). I created 51 and stopped there. Not sure the actual cap, however, I'm glad to say you can 50+ characters.

Vinji24

A save file in D2R does not take up that much space. I just got the character limit today on PS5 and with 30 chars and everything else that gets uploaded to PS+ to restore the full state of the game including character saves, we’re talking only 200mb. If someone wants to use around 5mb to create a new char, there is no reason why they shouldn’t be allowed…

I just hit the character limit today on PS5. It is also 30.

I am trying to do a holy grail, so I am collecting one of each unique and set item. And I have separate characters for each type of item. Eg. Swords, axes, armies, helms, gloves etc. I am not even close to collecting everything and I already hit the limit with about 5 characters I play on and 25 that are mules.

Would be really nice to have an unlimited shared stash, or something like that. But also would be really nice to have no character limit at least.

Is the same on xbox, 30 toons limit.
It becomes infuriating not being able to have more character slots, having to sort through mules and throw stuff out due to not enough space.

Like Cortnum i like to collect the unique’s and sets, and also have mules for each type of said items, helms armors etc etc, and i tend to collect rares and blues also that are godly and too good to throw away, all of which i would like to make builds around, but can’t because of not enough character slots.
Have one of each class bar pally i have a hammerdin and smiter, would love to make more sorcs and have a harcore and classic toons but no room, not about to delete mules with gg gear to make the room.

D2 is a game that revolves around loot, there should be imo unlimited slots for offline play at least, an increased limit for ladder/Nl would be epic also, with the current 30 slot limit for ladder/NL/hardcore/classic/LLD/MLD etc makes it not worth the time invested to get anywhere and is why i choose SP SSF.

Ladder play for me revolves around heavy crafting and progressing to farming torches to gain wealth, and all that takes multiple mules for me to hold all the crafting mats etc, the way it is atm with d2R i keep finding myself going back to my lod accounts on my laptop, where i am able to have my 360 toons of gg built characters and mules aplenty across 20 accounts.

If PC D2R was as limiting as console/switch it would be a guarentee people like LlamaSC Dbrunski GGM would be up in arms about it and their opinions would be heard by the devs, and no doubt Blizz would change it pretty quick, but the main youtubers are all pc players so no one in the D2R community that has any weight in their opinions/views will ever bring it to the devs attention on a console standpoint.

And if Blizz are thinking of making it a paid feature to pay money to gain more character slots, it would be pretty lame, myself i spent $70 au for the game, not about to pay for something that could easily be patched in.

If however D2R was free to play like POE, i would certainly pay for extra slots as in POE where you can buy currency tabs/extra stash tabs etc, it’s a free game that’s constantly bringing new free content and end game features, that to me justifys spending a couple of bucks for a QOL improvement, but to me Blizz has devolved into a cash cow, and the current trend of microtransactions built into games nowadays be it cosmetic or what ever is beyond a joke, games are all early release, buggy mess or nothing but remake after remake (COD “cough cough”), the industry seems more corporate money making machines that keep spewing out the same remade crap and then milking it for as long as they can ingame transactions and re-released bs (Skyrim perfect example, so many re-released versions).

We can only hope for more slots, but certainly wont be holding my breath for it.

You all know this isnt the same blizzard from 20 years ago, correct?

Friend, hate to break it to you - but you are a straight up grade-A hoarder.

D2 might be about gear, but that gear should be used to make gfg character builds. Or experimental builds.

Maybe seeing if you can do lesser-ubers with a summon necro. Smash WSK with a whirlwind sin. Things of that nature.

Not hoarding anything and everything that “looks nice.”
