No more mouse clicks! AutoHotKey and Diablo 2 Bannable?

I have ONE simple question.

Is it bannable to use AHK to make a modern skillbar like in D3?

I need the definitive Answer!

Some speculation for NOT BANNABLE:

  • No its not since it is available on controller.

  • The policy has always been that full automation is not cool, but one press → one action
macros are fine. Simple macros to cast skills or move to where your mouse is pointing are
OK. The WoW client even has this feature built-in.

Speculation for BANNABLE:

  • AutoHotkey = Third party program . Player needing this option finds himself at the current time to be considered as a cheater.

  • I think that Blizzard know that macros are used by lots of players. Lots of players use gaming mouses and keyboards with programmable interfaces. it’s not strictly legal and won’t be officially allowed.

So there we have it, thats what google says, a bit of yes and a bit of no.

The question remains. Will i get in trouble for using macro’s for my D2 skills?

(Keep the topic to the question on whether or not its bannable pls, i dont care about how its originial and how its classic and all that, if you love and how it was great, good for you.
I dont want precious changed either, but there are programs that allow macro’s for ppl like me who would prefer a Diablo 3 skillbar and im fine with that)

Well, that’s easy. It’s not illegal. You won’t go to jail.

And I don’t care whether you want to hear about original or not. Hope people that use it get their lazy butts banned  “The policy has always been that full automation is not cool, but one press → one action
macros are fine.” Yeah, and they crucified that in WoW. I’m expecting it to come to other games.

well nothing illegal about cheating in a game at least in my country but it is against the EULA as i understand it.

section 1 > C > ii > 1 and 4

  1. cheats; i.e. methods not expressly authorized by Blizzard (whether accomplished using hardware, software, a combination thereof, or otherwise), influencing and/or facilitating gameplay, including exploits of any in-game bugs, and thereby granting you and/or any other user an advantage over other players not using such methods;
  1. any code and/or software, not expressly authorized by Blizzard, that can be used in connection with the Platform and/or any component or feature thereof which changes and/or facilitates the gameplay or other functionality

Its verry vague, whether or not that includes macro’s.
I wish a blue post would just answer YES OR NO, and not leave it up for interpretation.

I don’t think Blizz will be concerned with it. People can set all that up using a mouse that has macro features already.

not really it includes macro software unless it they expressly authorize it like they do for 1 button 1 action

as it takes more than 1 action to select and then cast a spell it would be against the rules till blizzard says it is alright.

this can’t really be answered by anyone though all that can be answered is if you will get in trouble for being caught using them not for using them you could go years or even decades not getting caught based on d2lod’s track record.

thanks for your replies!

If automation allows you to do something that would otherwise circumvent the built in capabilities of the game - irrespective of there being the ability to do it on a different system in similar fashion (PS5, XboxX etc), then it is automatically condemned.

Automation programs are especially not allowed because they can fully automate your gaming experience, whether or not you would intend to use it that way.

I would like to know if it’s bannable too; right now teleporting and casting skills is terrible, my character stop casting skill even though im holding down m1or m2, just because my cursor hover over an object / interact-able.

I would like to make a macro that spam that skill while i am holding down my key or mouse button

From what I understand yes they will ban for auto hotkey use. In fact the last ban wave was a pindle bot using auto hotkey.

You cant autocast if thats what you’re asking

If your spell is cast 3 times you have to mash the button 3 times auto attack is considered automation.

but it’s a bit confusing, in-game if we hold down shift + mouse button 1 or mouse button 2, our spell keep casting but as soon we hover over something it just stops. I just want to bypass the current issue with d2r with macro. In OG D2, holding down alt let us keep casting.

Yes. Any automation of the game on Blizzard’s platform can get you banned if detected. This includes autohotkey. They ban people for it in other Blizzard games.

thanks, now let hope blizzard will fix this issue soon

I am pretty sure Warden is capable of detecting AutoHotKey so I would say, use it at your own risk and don’t complain if you do get banned.

This is a UI quirk. You could hold down your spell key starting from a “blank” area onscreen and continually fire off the spell/ability, but let’s say you accidentally hover over a mob and its name appears at the top of your screen while doing so. Once that mob is dead you stop firing the spell because the UI detected the mob as a definitive target even though that wasn’t what you were aiming for. It’s a commonplace occurrence in the cow level due to the density involved.

Macros of any kind are not permitted in D2R (or D2 for tha matter). You’re allowed to remap keys to say, buttons on a mouse or gamepad type device like the Logitech G13 or Razer Orbweaver. But you are not allowed to map more than one button or action to a single press of a key or button. It literally has to be a 1:1 mapping. This also means you are not allowed to force a permanent “key_down” state via such a macro or configurator software either as that then automates an action.

The two rules that will keep you safe from account action are as follows:

  1. One input (button/key press) = one singular action.

  2. You are not allowed to bypass in-game limitations to do something that the game is either incapable of or does not permit except for direct key or button remapping.

Be aware that because D2R has built in controller functionality for both DirectInput and XInput (likely from an SDL database), Warden, the anti-cheat software built into Blizzard’s games, may detect an app like Autohotkey and flag your account for review even if you aren’t using banned functionality within the AHK client. Blizzard allowed for greater accessibility, but by the same token, since we no longer have dire need for external mapping services outside of certain physical hardware configurations, a greater amount of software may be deemed against their rules for D2R.

Play it safe and stick solely to remapping if you need it. Anything else is tempting fate with your account.
